Boring? I am loving every minute of this show. This is the best thing since Jang-geum. If you want fighting, watch Damo or the WWF or something. For a show with INTERESTING characters, this is the ticket!

Ep.5 was slow and a little boring but I expected this since no show about Admiral Yi's full life can be filled with non-stop action. I liked the cute kids and everything but I'm an action guy so I'll try to be patient and watch the "Wonder Years" part of IYSS until Ep. 20.

i'm not asking for non-stop action. what i'm saying is that these episodes feel more like a children's movie then a historical drama. But, I do enjoy the bits about his parents, and the politics of the time.

well, the historical drama is about the life of one man
and a man HAD to be a child at some point

Right, I don't know if I'd say it was boring but I agree that some scenes in episodes 5 and 6 reminded me of a generic coming-of-age movie script that they could use to speculate about anyone's early years, not just Yi Soon-shin. The pack of friends with the tough guy, the shy guy, the smart guy, etc. running around and causing trouble, peeking at a girl/girls getting undressed/bathing, jumping into a body of water, etc. It just seemed a little forced on the writers' part. But hey it's only a few episodes in a long series, so what the heck. ;D

yeah. whats with the water anyway? because it was sort of the only childhood place where they could play, and because they have such fond memories of it, they use it as their meeting place for when they are older i mean come on, it's 16th century chosun it's not like there;s a video arcade for them to hang around in. a pond and a waterfall are probably as exciting as it gets

you ever saw that movie "once upon a time in america" why was it that they can make the childhood interesting there, and not here?

it's really not fair to compare a movie (where childhood is all of what fifteen minutes?) to a 100 episode series where two full hours are devoted to childhood. if you're watching with the same criteria standard as a movie
again
you will be disappointed

sighs.
i think every episode so far has been very interesting....for different reasons. i like that we are getting a look at his whole life. i like that not every episode you are going to see the same thing, or too much of this or that. it is a nice blend.
i think it is a shame that it can't be enjoyed for the entire body of work that it is.
i've had my say. ;D

I'm enjoying this intelligent drama more & more as it unfolds. I especially appreciate how much Soon Shin's character is developing and progressing with each episode. His eyes and expressive face shows his gentle, patient and naiive nature. You can see his disappointment, hurt and the difficult lessons he confronts as time goes on. I agree that this drama has a style and spirit which is similar to Jang Geum (my all-time favorite K-drama).

Jang-geum was the first woman to become the King of Chosun's personal physician. The show had not many action scenes, but was based on the suspense of how she would overcome the corrupt Choi clan.
Lady Choi was played by Kyun Mi-ree, my all-time fave Korean actress.
