the arrow maker is a different person than Goon gan's father. he was a one time character goon gan's dad is an oarsman Makes no difference. Then the arrow maker AND Goon Gan's father are my favourite characters.

From what I see, i'm gonna have problems with the childhood episodes. As you can probably tell, i'm an action freak, and that is why I couldn't enjoy shows like Dawn Of The Empire, as it was so boring. Emperor Wang Guhn did a good job when they showed the childhood's of Wang Guhn, and more importantly, of Goongyae. When they showed the real reason behind Goongyae being cast out of the palace, it was just amazing. It showed both the corruption of Shilla, as well as why Goongyae was always so screwed up. Wabg Guhn childhood was boring, and only showed that he was a rich brat form the start. But those episodes were kept alive, because when they didn't show him wetting his pants, they showed Kwun Hyun's rebellion, and the birth of Beckjae. You see, Emperor Wang Guhn was great, because it had so many plots. I wasn't too interested in Wang Guhn's crying over everything {well i would be mentally ill too if I had 29 wives, and about a hundred kids. and for anyone who didn't see the show, what I am saying is true. He married a women from every powerful clan in Koryo, so he could secure his power} but I was fascinated with everythign that went on in Beckjae. The show should've been called "Emperor Kyun Hyun" since his character was the best. {and Suh In Suk's performance was the best I have ever seen} Anyway, now that I am done babbling on and on, I will explain why I just wrote all that. You see, no matter how you look at it, this show is about one man, and one man alone. So there wouldn't be any breaks from his childhood. At least that's the way I see it.

. So there wouldn't be any breaks from his childhood. At least that's the way I see it. Hey ID, I feel your pain but I DISAGREE with your statement. (Hey Jausoon, what do you have to say about that, huh? LOL ;D) Anyway, There's gonna be some stuff to break his younger years. Such as the beginning of the japanese invasion and how it affected the chosun society as a whole. Also, how the ming empire got involved. And how the ming-chosun alliance were formed. So although they're gonna show mostly Yi Soon Shin, They're gonna show what was happening around him.

ID, this show might not be your cup of tea because like you said, you like action and complicated plotlines. however, for koreans, knowing of Yi Soon Shin's childhood, be it fictional or historical, is important to them because he is a national hero and for them, of course "the immortal yi soon shin" would be about one man and one man alone. they are watching the show simply because it is about him. things from his childhood will affect the kind of man he grows up to be so they want to see that sort of thing too. it might not be so action packed, but it still appeals to the korean audience. you gotta keep in mind two things when you watch this: 1.) koreans are interested in watching Yi Soon Shin, not so much the other characters of the time, so the plot will be centered around him 2.) koreans have a prior knowledge of the history so things that may not seem plausible or understandable to the american audience make perfect sense to them if you don't take the show with these grains of salt i don't think you will ever be able to enjoy it

I can deal with episodes that may not have many action scenes...as long as the drama is there and the characters are worth getting to know. VIB is right, the show is made by and for Korean audiences so the show may not make sense for us non-Koreans who are not familiar with the Admiral or the Imjin War. I have been reading up on the Admiral and the war so I can appreciate the drama more.
Soju, I will take your advice and imagine that the winds were really strong that day and the sails were running full mast. ;D

the scene i liked most in this episode was when all the men gathered and came to show the admiral their support and they were ready, willing and able to fight despite the king's order. when young nam said 'we came to get you admiral' and YSS nodded and his eyes teared, so did mine. what a moment! Ah yes, luvarchfiend. That scene was well-done.

eowyn, wasn't it just so moving? i actually got chills. how proud the admiral must have felt, and inspired....to see his men rally behind him like that.

i forgot to mention
i really liked the scene where young nam fights the three spies from the palace and how the fight scene opens with them running in the water and you only see their legs and swords
did that remind anyone else of ninja scroll? i mean the part where Jubei fights Utsmutsu Mujuro
