hi VIB of YSS
just finished watching episode 5. very different from the previous 4.....and i see now why they started the series the way they did. it would not have been as compelling and grabbing if they had started here. obviously i hated the way this one began. i am not going to like when that part concludes....i hope at the end of the series.
but this episode was interesting as well. poor little guy. i was so happy when they were running and he was able to excel here. the music in this part was great. the scenery was beautiful. it was so sweet when they found each other after being separated and hurt.
the end of this episode was not so nice for the family.

you will like the next few episodes
he is not a kid anymore
but the troubles just keep piling up
it is amazing that he didn't become a nutbag nervous wreck

watched episode 6 early this afternoon.
very sad to me.....maybe just the mood of the day.
when the teacher kicked him out of school....i was so sad and angry. i do not understand how people can be so heartless and so cold.
hated when he had to say goodbye to his friends. they were true and caring friends, no one should have to part with those kinds of friends.
i was so happy when he jumped from the cliff....a triumph of courage over fear. goes to show that bravery is not the absence of fear but acting in spite of it.
the last scene where he was now a very young man, you could see the beginning of the man he is to become. it was a look in his eye, and in his spirit.
thanks again for the summary. very helpful.

wow
all i can say is if this keeps up i may not make it through this series
could his life be any harder?
geez, if it's not one thing it's another
i guess that's the difference between me and a great man like yi soon shin. if i went through what he did, i'd grab a shotgun (or the chosun equivalent) and go to town on everyone who did me wrong (hell, i'd put their names on a list - if yi did that he'd have a novel)
at least he is a man now in episode 7
no beard, but it is growing on me.
he has such expressive eyes

VIB of YSS
since i haven't seen 7 yet the only thing i will comment on is the expressive eyes. this is what got to me from the very start. kim myung-min is great in this part because he says so much with his eyes. remarkable acting.....like his heart and soul are inhabited by the real yi soon shin.

well what happens is that we see that even as a young man, his heart is always thinking of others.
the courage he lacked as a boy is definitely not lacking now. we see him come to the defense of his friend who is being bullied by some yangban thugs
we also meet his older brother yu shin.
his father is a strange man. he gets angry at yu shin for studying and burns all his books right in front of him and soon shin tries to defend his brother but his father only gets more upset
some people want soon shin to take an important exam in another guy's name (one of the yangban thugs) and to make him do it, they beat up his brother and claim that he tried to kill one of thugboy's friends. they tell him that the only way for him to be released is if soon shin commits the exam fraud for them
bastards

i knew when he jumped from that cliff that he would never lack courage again. it was the turning point of the boy into becoming the man who was destined to be great, in my opinion.

it was so strange to see him so full of emotion and temper
it makes it so much more remarkable that he was able to tame those emotions as an admiral

tame them yes, but they are there, that is what is so evident in his eyes.....and that constant haunted look you see there, the one constant. again credit the actor for this. what is that saying......what doesn't kill you will make you stronger.....very true for the admiral. this man is just so remarkable and i am just getting to know him....i am in awe.

just read about the salt incident VIB of YSS in episode 7. talk about bastards. why are people so damned mean and heartless? i cannot for the life of me understand how it can make someone feel good to do bad things to other people and hurt them and make them feel bad.
you certainly have been busy with the summaries. and again my many thanks, but please take your time, no rush.

YI SOON SHIN DOES KYUNG DAE SEUNG
i know i shouldn't laugh but in episode 8, during an emotional moment, YSS runs into the sea and falls to his knees screaming.
koreans and screaming in bodies of water...
