Is Genghis Kahn a Chinese drama? Not a Mongolian production ? I heard Genghis Kahn was made by Mongolian staff and Mongolian actors/actresses, but it was Chinese who made an investment in its production cost. (Chinese sincerely believe that Genghis Kahn and Mongolians are Chinese. : Choko, I really really envy you. Shin Don, Genghis Kahn, Seodongyo... I want to return to my motherland ! Florel, you don't have to envy me because... 1) Seodong-yo (sbs) was quite disappointing. I can't believe it is being made by the same director/writer/musician as The Great Jang-geum. What's wrong with them? 2) Genghis Kahn (KBS) was not so good to me. The spectacular landscape and gorgeous action scenes look great, but the story was boring and hackneyed. In ep. 1, too many actors were introduced simultaneously, which caused viewer's confusion. Mongolian actors looked somewhat clumsy because of awkward Korean dubbing. It is not a good choice for those who love emotionally dramatic historical drama. 3) Finally, Shindon (MBC) and Genghis Kahn (KBS) will be on the air almost at the same time. (Saturday ~ Sunday night 9:30 or 9:55). So, I have to choose only one drama. (Now, Shindon looks better for me. ;D) Sigh... I really miss The Immortal Yi Sun-shin. No one can replace my lovely admiral. They are shouting "Jang-gun!"

Chinese sincerely believe that Genghis Kahn and Mongolians are Chinese. I tell it to my french friend who is a history & geography teacher in high school. She says that they are crazy. I always have difficulty to understand the chinese mentalities. I cannot help but find a political purpose (to unify multiple nations in actual China), imposed by the authorities and impregnated in the Chinese mind. Gallia (ancient France) was a colony of the Roman Empire during more than 400 years after being conquered by Julius Caesar. But no french would claim that Caesar is a french ! They are shouting "Jang-gun!" LOL It's funny ! My french friend doesn't know Admiral YSS. But she knows that Japanese ceramics owe much to Korean potters who were kidnapped during the war. And I'm sorry to hear that "Seodongyo" is not as good as you expected.

1) Seodong-yo (sbs) was quite disappointing. I can't believe it is being made by the same director/writer/musician as The Great Jang-geum. What's wrong with them? You think so? I think we still have to wait till the adult actors and actresses appear. (and they did appear this week, and I'm still not making any judgement yet) At least it's not about Chosun. I'm tired of Chosun shows. Just watching the costumes from Baekje will be worth enough for me. And I have so much expectation for Shindon. The costumes, and the set they built for this drama... recently finished the construction, and it looks better than anything I've seen before. I just hope Shindon beats the crap out of Ghenghis Khan.

This looks like it will be loaded with drama, intrigues and romance-in short, everything I love in a historical drama. How many episodes does it have? (Maybe it'll be available on DVD when it's over?)

60 episodes. It's apparently going to be somewhat like coming of the age drama as well in the beginning, when they show the youth of the three main characters.

Photo gallery has opened. www.imbc.com/broad/tv/drama/sindon/photo/index.htmlWallpapers www.imbc.com/broad/tv/drama/sindon/wallpaper/index.htmlMost of all, the drama writer is Jung Ha-Yeon. He is the person who wrote JP's first Korean historical drama, Jang Nok-su. ;D (He also wrote Empress Myoung-sung (명성황후), King and Queen(왕과 비), and Wife(아내)) The filming and editing staff are excellent. They are those who made The Great Jang-geum! (OK. I see why Seodong-yo was so poorly filmed and edited although it has DJG director/writer/musician. It doesn't have the same filming/editing/makeup team as DJG) The most interesting character is Won Hyeon, the Shindon's follower. He seems to be a character like Judas in the famous musical "Jesus Christ Superstar". He sincerely admires Shindon, and urges him to be a new King. When Shindon became against his expectations, however, he decides to betray Shindon and helps to kill him. p.s. Oops... the drama writer is a man, not a woman.

Shindon seems to be a great drama in making. I think the castings are superb and they spent a lot of money to make a good historical drama. I just finished watching first two episodes. I would say two thumbs up!
As for Sedongyo, casting, story, and lack of money spent are all too evident. I think it will be a giant flop.

I hope you guys can watch this show. It is attractive and beautiful. Pictures from Ep. 1~6 of ShindonThree main characters : King Gongmin, Shindon, and Princess Noguk Shindon and a camel. Shindon's psychic power made me LOL. ;D It looks like a buddhist version of Star wars. (Is he a Darth Vader?) Mongolian Princess Noguk and Koryo(Korean) King Gongmin Prince Gang-reung (later, King Gongmin of Koryo) had been taken hostage in the Mongol empire for about 10 years and was giving himself up to liquor and sex. Mongolian Princess Noguk was going to marry Monglian Crown Prince Kunran. However, politics made Princess Noguk marry King Gong-min. Nobody knows she will change the history of Koryo. Queen Myoung-deok (King Gongmin's mother) was an ambitious woman. (Actress Eom Yu-shin also played the king's mother role in the Great Jang-geum.) Mongolian Princess Deok-nyeong (King Chungmok's mother) (Actress Kim Yeo-jin played Jang-geum's physician master in The Great Jang-geum) Shindon's master is one of my favorite character. Won-hyeon, a Shindon's follower, is very cute and attractive. (Actor Oh Man-seok is a famous musical actor in Korea) Jung Se-un (King Gongmin's loyal subordinate) (Dear IYSS fan, Actor Kim Myoung-guk came back.)
