esm always lived her life with a plan B in mind. i guess after 20 some years in a revenge induced marriage you tend to want to plan ahead. hopefully she will relax and enjoy the fact that her husband took her back (let alone jin kook calling her "mother" )

You know, most of Jin-soo's improvement seems to be due to Min-sup being his art (and language ((and music ;D))) teacher. Probably explains why he seemed to be a "Mini-Min-sup" in ESM's daydream

When I first starting watching MPC a few months ago, I remember Jin-soo hardly speaking, resting his head on his bed with boredom and sadness. Hee-soo did much to involve him in the family, even taking him to her uncle Min-sup's home. JS really improved with Min-sup.
ESM seems to be a bit more kind and understanding toward Hee-soo. It's about time. It was HS's maternal instincts knowing that JS was suffering because his mother was gone, his father was ill and Jin-kook was self-absorbed. HS did everything to bring ESM back for the sake of the family. ESM is truly fortunate to have HS as a DIL.

I think it's more a look of wistfulness, and wondering "What will he do when I'm gone?"

ESM truly loves Jin-soo, but feels sadness, as would any parent, that her only child is mentally handicapped. I think she is beginning to fear for his future, so maybe that's why she's becoming more acceptable of Hee-soo. Perhaps she's begining to see that HS is truly a warm, loving person who would care for JS in the distant future. I can see HS, in the future, an old woman loving her kids, grand-kids and still taking care of JS.
ESM had better change her attitude toward HS because, without HS, JS might end up in some kind of mental institution. I don't think Jin-kook, without HS, would have an interest in caring for his half-brother. Even if HS were alone, she'd still care for JS. ESM should think about the future rather than criticizing her in front of Golfer Dad trying to turn him against her. In fact, HS would most likely be the one to care for both of them when they get old.

Actually, this is one of the things that makes me mad about this show. Jin-soo's mother sitting around moping about what Jin-soo doesn't have, instead of concentrating on what he does have. He's an artist. He's a sweet, loving soul. He's truthful to a fault. GD and HS, and especially Min-sup, seem to have a better grip on what's right about the kid. ESM acts as though he cannot contribute to society or live happily, and neither of these things is true. I think that's one of the things that contributed to her poor treatment of Jin-kook. What child is perfect? Who can do everything? No one, that's who.
Hmph.
Bo
PS - I don't know if you guys remember this, but Jin-soo was not born with a mental handicap. He had an accident at a lake and nearly drowned, and this caused brain damage. That may be why ESM cannot accept his condition. But, still...

TheBo: You're absolutely right - I was thinking that myself - about Jin-Soo's handicap. I could never figure out exactly what the story was because ESM blamed Jin-Kook for Jin-Soo's condition because of the fever and the icy river. She was really nasty to him (probably how she got the ESM name!)and that made me initially sympathize with JK. But nobody mentions that anymore at all. And remember when Jin-Soo had to be rushed to the hospital, while ESM was estranged from the family? She kept asking DD to do something at the hospital. Jin-Soo had some kind of brain fever. Dr. Chang or Choi (they did change names on viewers) also visited ESM because she wanted reports on Jin-Soo. If the writers are planning on curing him or improving his abilities they not only better get working on it, but a plausible reason for the improvement would be helpful! Liz.

Oh, Liz, you're so fussy, you want this show to make sense, LOL. They haven't been too plausible, so far, have they. I mean, since when does a near-mortal fever improve brain function? I think I'll start watching it again for the last ten episodes or so, but if I forget, I won't be tooooooo upset. Bo

Am I the only one that was creeped out--well maybe not creeped out, but I can't think of the right word-- when Grandma and Jinsoo where playing hide and go seek?

I had the impression that the whole family was aghast. I can't figure out what her illness is supposed to be. Reminds me of when Kramer and Micky on "Seinfeld" had a job acting out various ailments for medical interns. Sometimes I think Alzheimer's or some other kind of age-related dementia, sometimes it's a brain tumor (that bitter/sweet taste dysfunction), and sometimes brain damage from a stroke.

Yeah, that was kind of scary! But I was more freaked out after Jae-min left Grandma's room after thinking she had taken her medicine. Grandma was so gleeful and clapping her hands, "You don't know?!" And it turned out she didn't take her medicine yet. But I think she did later. Grandma's conditons have gone from strange to just plain scary. I feel so bad for the family.

Grandma's personality is like that of a Rumpelstiltskin-like imp--naughty, gleeful, and kind of perverse. It is rather disturbing.
