If you go to Soju's thread introducing the show, he gives a list of characters and who plays them. One is a pop star named "Eric"--Just Eric. He appears at the college Ji-eun is supposed to be attending "overseas," when she sees a man with a balloon and mistakes him for her future husband. They don't say anything, they just gaze longingly at each other. It was a silly, useless scene. Speaking of her "college" (which featured a remarkably governmental [bland] architectural style), did anyone else think the "American" students were working really, really hard not to let their faces be shown? All we saw were Koreans. I was amused. Bo

I missed that scene entirely. I don't even understand which eppie it was from, but actually, I'm not intrigued enough by the show to care. Oh, well! I did end up finding "Eric" on the list of actors at koreanwiz. I didn't know if that was the name of the character or the actor. He also goes by Eric Moon, Moon being his real last name. Thanks.

Ji-Eun’s voice reminds me so much of Keumja’s from OMR. It has something about it, it’s not necessarily nasal, I don’t know how to describe it.

I got the schedule just by calling Channel 28 and asking them to send me one. This can be a little tricky, as you have to get the person there who speaks English, but they were happy to send me one. However, by the time I received it, it was already out of date.
Korean American Broadcasting Company 5225 North Kedzie Avenue, Chicago, IL 60625 (773) 588-0070
The information that a new historical drama was beginning came from the Tribune. They ran an article last Friday in the Tempo section, which is how I found this site. They indicated that the series which had been running Friday and Saturday was ending, and a new one was beginning in the same time slot. Unfortunately, the new one is Phoenix.

I saw episode 16 tonight - Right now, I'm wavering between liking and disliking this show! Irritation with the characters is my main emotion.
Actually, I just wanted to comment that No....it isn't.

Actually, I just wanted to comment that "It was a silly, useless scene [with Eric and the balloon]"-- No....it isn't. Aw, Melissa, you didn't tell me why you think that! [Maybe you don't want to put in a spoiler, but I think the scene has problems that can be discussed at this point.] I thought it was silly and useless because they didn't even greet each other, they didn't speak, we were not introduced to the character. Why was it in there? True, she was "seeing" someone who reminded her of her "true love"--but this is the introduction of a main character on the show and the writers just let it slip by, unnoticed. I'll bet people who did not read Soju's intro didn't even realize the guy WAS anyone. Perhaps you mean it gains meaning and/or resonance later, but if that is so, they did not USE it NOW, which is, after all, when we are watching it. Secondly, I've forgotten where you are, girl, you are way ahead of us. You're on Episode 16 [we're on 2!], you're still wavering between like and dislike, and you're still watching? You got a serious Korean Drama Jones, hon-ey! I was just wondering the other day what the heck I am going to do for my "fix" if I don't like the daily that comes after OMR because, frankly, I'm only watching this because I have to and because, in the past, I've disliked shows only to get sucked into them. Like OMR. Bo

TheBo, you're right. I didn't want to say more than was necessary because I know you don't like spoilers! LOL
Since you know Eric is a main part of this show, that scene does come into play later in the show (and no, I'm not going to say how or when). It's not a huge part of the show, but they were giving you something for a future scene.
I'm in MS watching it on Korean satellite (TAN) which comes out of CA. The satellite schedule isn't the same as anyone else, that I can tell, so I'm always ahead or behind in these dramas. DJG ended here before it did in Chicago and I had More Beautiful than A Flower, when you guys didn't, etc.
I'm watching it in horrified fascination. (Like watching a car wreck in slow motion). I'm frustrated by the interaction between all the main characters and the twists and turns that are taken. Sit back and see if I'm not right in this.
I'm anxiously awaiting a point in time where I can VENT (lol) about some of the things that have gone on. And YES, if it has subtitles (and not absolutely horrible...ahem....how many dramas HAVE been absolutely horrible!), I will be watching it. I have to say though, that AOW is not my cup of tea and I'm not watching it! LOL

Actually, I sort of felt the same way about Winter Sonata (Winter Love Song)--horrified fascination. It was impossible in a more substantive way, though. We just keep plugging along... Bo

He's a member of a male group called Shinhwa which is Korea's version of Nsync. Wait...we're talking about the character named Eric not the actor who plays Eric--right? About the whole useless scene, maybe it was like Love Letter...there was a scene where one of the main characters just stared at the other main character and the significance of the scene wasn't explained until a couple of episodes later.

Eric is the actor (English nickname?), not the character in the show. Although I've seen 16 epis, I don't remember his character's name! (Had to look it up... Suh Jung-min is the character's name) I think it's so funny when directors try to "internationalize" a show and the international scenes are SO generic. It's like, we KNOW you're not in America but couldn't you try a LITTLE harder to make it appear so? It's also kind of amusing to me when dramas incorporate English or Japanese conversations. Sometimes the actors speak perfect English but the "Americans" (or whomever) are HORRIBLE actors. I digress... I just love this actress. I wish I knew what her nationality was...she doesn't look like a full-blood Korean to me. I saw her in Beautiful Days and she was great! So funny and so cute! Melissa Melissa

Hey, now that you mention it, I did think that maybe she was a Korean-American, with perhaps an American granddad or something. She just looks "foreign" to me somehow.

Yep, her height, her eyes they just don't look like your typical Korean beauty, not that she isn't pretty, she's quite lovely. I like her haircut, it's kind of like a bowl cut but w/pigtails. She's also not afraid to give her friend Ji-eun (I keep wanting to type Eun-ji ala OMR) some much needed counsel.

I looked up her name (forgot to put it in my original post) and it's definitely Korean. So maybe her mom is another nationality. Her name is Lee Yoo Jin (Lee Yu Jin) and here's the link to KoreaWiz -she's the last one on the page. I thought maybe she was Korean-American or Russian. www.koreanwiz.org/at/actors27.htmlMelissa
