Well, I voted. I put "OK, might keep watching" although I'm still watching it! I just don't think it's "Good, I'll keep watching." It's an OK drama - although I suppose if it has me liking and disliking the characters then it's doing it's job of entrapment. Oh, well. I'm a sucker for subtitled dramas and that's the main reason I'm watching! Melissa

Grr, it seems like I'm the only person who actually likes this show! I never saw Jang Geum (sp?). The only show that I've watched on this network before was one million roses and that was only a chance happening - I thought it was the only subtitled show. I thought that, although the relationship between Ji-eun and ... I forgot his name ... wasn't that great, but it was fun to laugh at them; and to laugh at her for how spoiled she was. I don't really like the mother though, too much of the bi-polarity.
A side-question: is the apartment where they're living now the apartment that Ji-eun's mother bought for her and her (first) husband?

...is the apartment where they're living now the apartment that Ji-eun's mother bought for her and her (first) husband? You know, I never thought of that. It seems reasonable they would move in there, hachiue. I'm sorry you feel on the "outside" with the show. I'm also sorry you missed Dae Jang-geum, which was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. Ever. Of any description. So you see, "Phoenix" has too great an "older sister" to live up to! I'm sure we'll all develop a certain affection for it after awhile. Hope to see you here often! Bo

hachiue , I totally agree with you that this is a good drama. I caught the tail end of Jang geum and it was excellent as Bo said, but I really enjoy this show! I laugh at Ji-eun's temper tantrum's and screamed at the tv when Ji-eun's mom would berate Se-hoon. I was so glad to see him so successful. I don't know where they are going to take the plot but I will definately follow!

Hachiue, I know it can be annoying to see the constant comparison to Jang-geum! It got pretty old, pretty fast for me to keep seeing comments on how inferior "One Million Roses" was to "Yellow Handkerchief," because I'd never seen the latter and didn't give a darn. So you just go on enjoying "Phoenix" and I'm sure we'll all calm down soon. Lucy

Well that's why I don't really like comparing dramas. Anyways, DJG was a historical drama and Bool Sae is a modern day drama. That's like trying to compare a daily drama to a miniseries. You can't really compare the 2 because they're different on many levels.

You can't really compare the 2 because they're different on many levels. I, Bo Brown, hereby solemnly promise never to compare an historical drama to a modern series again. Or a daily drama to a miniseries. Or an actor in one drama to an actor in another. (I'm trying to fake out knov1 here--is it working, knov1?) I know we've had this conversation in the forii before, but I think it's fair to rate the quality and/or scripting, filming or acting of one against another, even if they are different genre. Also, most of the conversation here has been comparing similar to similar--Winter Sonata was a miniseries that took place in modern dress as does Phoenix. And I think this series is very, very similar to the daily dramas, so that comparison is fair too. All the sighing about Dae Jang-geum is merely sighing about Dae Jang-geum--we'll get over it. We just miss it. Bo

From what my husband says about DJG, you guys are right in *sighing* over the loss. I think I've said it before, but he considers it *the BEST* historical drama -EVER. To me that says a lot since he is *from* Korea (was transplanted to the US because of me 8 years ago!) ;D Anyway, just had to back those of you who were bemoaning the fact it's over. Melissa

Boy aren't you guys hard to please. If your going to compare every drama to a historical one you will never like these type of dramas. Lucky thing you do not live in the aloha state. We have only on historical drama playing now the same one as you. The other 8 of them are modern ones. You guys would bored as hell. I am surprised though since you guys hardly get than many subtitled korean dramas to watch. Any way we are almost three fourths done with this drama and it is a great one. And you call yourself loyal korean drama fans.

And you call yourself loyal korean drama fans. Well just because we are K-drama fans doesn't mean we are going to like every drama that airs. It's like wine, just because you like it doesn't mean that you're going to drink everything in front of you. No, you're going to like the vintage, special stuff.

I'm liking it much better than I did at the beginning. Now that Our Heroine has stopped being a spoiled brat, it's easier to sympathize with her. I still have no significant affection for any of the characters, however. It's interesting; I'll keep watching.

I still have no significant affection for any of the characters, however. It's interesting; I'll keep watching. I sure agree with that! This is about as far as we've gone with any drama where we couldn't relate to any of the characters, but it still does manage to be interesting and for the most part, it's pretty well-directed and the production values are very good. Phoenix avoids (with the exception of the comic relief scenes) the high school play level of acting that plague Precious Child, though I like a couple of the characters in that one much more.
