~The Imperial Family has been captured by the Archfiend!!!~ he shouted in his head. Kyung couldn't believe it. How could this be? How could the most divine family in the world be at the mercy of a criminal of high treason.
Kyung jumps out from his bed and softly wakes up Su-an. ~I don't want her to find out about her family. Not now.~ Su-an smiles as the first thing she sees in her eyes is Kyung Dae-Seung. "Hello, my husband."
Hearing those words out of her mouth, there was nothing more that Kyung wanted to do than go back to bed and pretend that everything was just a dream. But he knew it couldn't be so. On the outside, he smiled at Su-an. "Wife, you must go with Attendent Cho now."
Su-an's puzzled and bewildered look was classic. She knew that it was her wedding night, yet she was asked away from her own husband. "Why?" she asked Kyung.
Kyung shook his head. "Later, my wife. For now, follow Attendent Cho." Su-an nods as would any wife and prepares herself. Kyung takes Cho aside. "Attendent, you must make sure that Su-an is hidden in a place where the rebels cannot find her." Attendent Cho bows. "Yes, Prince."
Kyung immedietely dresses and prepares himself for a battle. He grabs his long spear and goes to Cho once more. "If I am killed, you must make sure that Huh Seung and the loyal members of Koryo continue the fight. We cannot allow this rebel army to destroy everything that we have worked for. I need you to send a message to Lieutenant Kim and the rest of Dobang. Have them prepare for battle and head here as stealthly as possible. Do you understand?" Attendent Cho nods once more, knowing that if Kyung failed in what he was about to do, Koryo rested on him.
With that, Kyung exited the room, leaving Su-an wondering why he was dressed for a battle. Kyung makes his way down the halls of the palace, noticing that there is no one in sight. ~They have all probably gone into hiding...~ He reaches the doors and gives them a push open.
What was before him was like he was dropped into Hell itself. Bodies were before him everywhere. The Imperial Army was lying at his feet. But what horrified him the most was the sight directly in front of him. The Imperial Family had been brutally beaten, especially the Emperor. Gashes were bleeding from his skull, his lip was torn, his eyes brused beyond recognition. The rest of the Imperial Family was in similar condition, including the Empress Dowager. Yi Ui-min had spared no one from his ravages.
"Yi Ui-min..." Kyung started softly, "what have you done?!!" he shouted at the Archfiend. In front of the Imperial Family was the imposing figure of the Archfiend. Yi Ui-min just smiled. "The time of Koryo is over. The Heavens have chosen a new leader. This piddling fool.." Archfiend gives the Emperor a quick kick to the face, breaking his nose, "will die as will all those loyal to him."
Kyung couldn't believe what he was seeing. But what he couldn't believe more was his rage. Never before had he felt this sort of anger. No, not just anger, hatred. It felt as though his entire body was boiling inside. His spear, sharpened to perfection, shook with his pulse. He couldn't take it anymore. He wasn't Kyung Dae-Seung, Byuksang Merit Subject, Prince, Imperial Guardian. He wasn't any of that. He was Kyung Dae-Seung, Devil.
"You.... will... DIE!!!!" screamed Kyung. With that, he runs through the pavillion, like a banshee towards the Archfiend. Yi Ui-min shakes his head. ~This man is a fool. How did he get control of the Empire? I am glad I have done this!~ "Charge!!" shouted the Archfiend. And off went the Imperial Dragon Army. When the two forces collided it seemed as though the earth shattering force was enough to destroy the land.
Kyung goes through his attackers like an invincible warrior. The pace quickened, but it wasn't the pace of the Imperial Dragon army attacks, it was the pace of Kyung Dae-Seung's defenses. One after another after another, the Imperial Dragon forces went down. But instead of tiring, Kyung was gaining stamina, gaining power. It was like he fed off of his rage, like it was supplying him with the force to succeed.
The Imperial Dragon Army wasn't enough. ~This man is no man.~ thought the Archfiend. "Brue, go and destroy him!" Brue nodded and charged with the crowd, backing away the Imperial Dragon Army, just a one-on-one with Kyung and Brue.

Kyung stands before Brue, not even knowing, or for that matter caring who he was. All he had to do was save the Imperial Family, that was the only thing that mattered to him. Everyone else was just in his way. The blood from the attacking Imperial Dragon army had stained his military uniform, had found place on Kyung's face. But that didn't matter either.
"Henchmen of the Archfiend," started Kyung Dae-Seung, "I am Kyung Dae-Seung, and I tell you now... if you fight me... you will die."
Brue looked Kyung Dae-Seung over. ~It is very apparent that this man has to be tired. He decimated the Imperial Dragon army attackers. No worries though, I shall help my brother in his cause.~ Brue raises up a spear and goes into a defensive posture.
Kyung's eyes blaze with hatred. "Ahhh!!" Kyung charges Brue, his moves seemingly directed by the heavens themselves; they were so perfect. Kyung takes a swipe down from high and Brue blocks the blow using his spear, but left himself open for a dropkick by Kyung.
Brue falls backward but quickly recovers. Now he goes on the attack. His spear is directed throughthe air in a straight jab. Kyung counters with a parry and a swipe, but Brue manages to evade. Dark clouds begin to come in, and a drizzle reaches the grounds of the palace.
Brue comes in with another jab with the spear, but this time, Kyung is able to dodge and strike Brue's spear itself, breaking it in half. Kyung sneers slightly and drops his own spear. Now it wasn't going to be about weapons, just hand to hand.
Brue charges and tackles Kyung Dae-Seung. They roll around on the grounds of the palace. Brue raises a fist to smash Kyung's head apart, but Kyung dodges and twists his legs so that the two men are apart once more. They look at each other once more. ~He is not human.~ thought Brue.
Once again the two figures collide, but it is Kyung this time with the upper hand. He punches Brue's chest with interlocked fists, staggering Brue. This allows Kyung the time to perform a jump kick, sending Brue backwards and onto the ground.
Brue is unmoving as Kyung walks toward him. He looks him over once more and raises his head and positions his arms to be able to break Brue's neck in an instant. "Archfiend, it is apparent that you have relations with this man! Let the Imperial Family go or I will kill him!"
The Archfiend had been watching the fight, first smiling, but that smile turned into a visage of horror. Now Kyung had Brue in a position to kill him. What was he to do? Does he sacrifice Brue to Kyung to get what he wants or does he let the Imperial Family go and face eternity in Hell just so Brue can live. ~There is another option.~
Yi Ui-Min looks over and picks up the Emperor, who had since begun to recover from the kick to the face. He places the tied up Imperial member before him and raises his ax. "Kyung Dae-Seung, let him go or I will kill the Emperor.
The Emperor's eyes go as wide as they can go as he hears what was just said. He looks around the palace. Where there used to be just Imperial Army corpses laid about, there was now a bundle of rebel forces crumpled on the ground. As he looked over at Kyung Dae-Seung, he saw him have a lock on one of the rebel army generals. ~Kyung either lets the general go or I die?... he can't let him go...~ With that the Emperor did the most brave thing he had ever done, with all the strength left in him, he slowly stood up and faced the Archfiend. Eye to eye they looked at each other, faces unmoving. That is until the Emperor gave Yi Ui-min a headbutt sending Yi back staggering.
Yi Ui-min couldn't believe it. He was attacked by the Emperor? He raised a hand to his nose and found it bleeding. He was bleeding because of the Emperor. The anger in the Archfiend was apparent and he raised his ax once more. "You!!" With a swift chop, the Archfiend's ax fell, and so did the Emperor, crumpled to a heap on the ground.
It was as if Kyung's world shattered before him. Everything, everything didn't matter anymore. None of it. He had failed. "Emperor!!!" He slowly raised himself, not even caring about the fallen general before him. His eyes were locked on the Archfiend. The storm that was just a drizzle at first was now a full blown gale, lightning and thunder galore. Kyung didn't notice. He raised his spear once more and charged Yi Ui-Min.
Yi Ui-min saw a couple of his generals begin to move to block Kyung but he waived them off. ~Now is the end of Koryo! With Kyung Dae-Seung's death, Shilla will reign supreme!~ He raised his ax and charged toward Kyung Dae-Seung.
As their weapons impacted, a loud and earth shattering boom was heard as if the heavens were expecting this great battle and were watching with intensity. Both weapons remained locked as Kyung and Yi looked each other in the eyes. Yi Ui-min was one of joy as he thought he was about to defeat his opponents once and for all. But the surprise was Kyung's. His eyes remained cold, a dark stare piercing through the heart of the Archfiend.
"Now!!" shouted an unknown voice from away. Quickly, Koryo Imperial army soldiers raised themselves from the ledges of the palace, armed with bows, they fired down on the rebel army. Each arrow hitting their target, the Imperial Dragon army appeared to be crumpling before the force of the Imperial Army.
General Choi Bu dodged another arrow and shouted over at the Imperial Dragon. "Emperor, we must retreat now or our army will be destroyed!!" The Archfiend yelled out in anguish. ~I was this close to achieving victory!!~ With a last glare, the Archfiend shoved Kyung, staggering him back and ran with the rest of his men outside of the Imperial City, back into the shadows of the night.
Kyung Dae-Seung looked at the hellish scene before him. Hundreds if not thousands of bodies were strewn about. But he only cared about one body. The body of his Emperor. He ran foward towards the golden figure which had been surrounded by the rest of the Imperial Family that had been captured.
Kyung dropped to his knees. The Emperor's eyes stared head, a gash from the Archfiend's ax had been created along his chest, the killing blow. The Crown Prince held his head while the Empress Dowager and the oldest Princess held each other tightly.
"Father!!!" shouted Su-an from the top of the palace stairs. Kyung looked in her eyes and could hold it no longer as he shed the tears he had been holding back ever since he had been first notified of the horrible situation. "Emperor...." sobbed Kyung Dae-Seung. "It was my fault. A hand is put on Kyung's shoulder. Kyung turns around to see who it is and finds Huh Seung along with Du Kyung-Seung and Dobang. ~It was them who ended the battle...~ Kyung drops to the ground and sobs once more. The storm's rain mixing in with the tears from his face showing the anguish that everyone was feeling. "Emperor..."

It had been three days since the death of Emperor Myong Jong and the near collapse of the Koryo Empire. Since the attack, the palace was, pardon the pun, deathly quiet. Everyone, from commoner to royalty paid respects to the Emperor. Today was the day of his drive through the Empire, to the temple where he would be laid to rest with the other Emperors of the past.
Kyung Dae-Seung had taken the Emperor's murder extremely hard. Not only was he unable to protect the Emperor from the Archfiend, he was unable to protect Su-an from the grief of losing someone she loved. Now, as he dressed in all white, the ceremonial mourning garb, it seemed as though this would never be the same.
However, the Archfiend made a mistake. When he retreated from the Imperial City when the rebel army was set upon by the Imperial Army led by Huh Seung, Du Kyung-Seung, and Dobang, he had left the general that Kyung had been fighting behind. And this general was now kept under close guard and subjected to interrogation basically non-stop.
As the drive made their way through the villages, mourners had lined up on the side of the roads to pay their respects to their fallen liege. But a question was in their minds, something that kept bothering them. Who was to take the throne?
Finally, the drive arrived at the temple. The Crown Prince, Heir Apparent to the throne, took out the Emperor's will, and unscrolled it, preparing to read it to the masses of the Empire.
{In the greatness of Heaven, the Empire of Koryo has been blessed with great prosperity in its two hundred year existence. The Great Emperor Tajeo created a Dynasty that has tried its hardest to keep the Empire and its subjects free and happy.
Unfortunetely, these times have degenerated into chaotic and unseemely features. Peasant rebellions, villianous subjects, and disasters have prevented this Emperor from truly completing his will. It is his wish that the subjects of this Empire have complete loyalty to the new Emperor.
An important matter for the Dynasty has now come into light. The Koryo Empire will continue. The Crown Prince will continue the line. However, he shall have the support of the numerous ministers and generals that support him.
I have one final wish. It is my wish that the warriors of the Empire no longer control the Dynasty's State Affairs. The warrior's job is to protect the Empire, not to administrate it. That is the job of the Emperor and the royal court. Please abide by your liege's last request.
Your Majesty}
The Crown Prince rolls up the document once more and the funeral proceeds.
It's now two days since the last of the funeral processions. The coronation ceremony has just ended, officialy placing the Crown Prince on the throne. However, it hasn't been long but the allure of the power of the throne had gotten to his head. The past hours had been spent not focusing on the State, but on the Imperial Escorts of the palace. Everyone, from general to minister agreed that the new Emperor was in poor taste to create a celebration at this time of mourning.
Kyung Dae-Seung sighs as he looks on in the party. As the Imperial Guardian, it was his job to advise the Emperor on matters, but as his brother, it wasn't wise to bother a family member's extravagence. Kyung slowly stands and bows before the Emperor.
"Hwangsang Pei, it is your adviser's humble opinion that the matters of the State be brought to your attention. The Archfiend is still at large; he must be brought to justice."
The new Emperor reddens. "Kyung Dae-Seung, I do not wish to hear the State affairs right now. Another day."
Kyung bows lower. "Your Majesty..."
"Enough!!" shouts the Emperor. He grabs a food dish and throws it at Kyung's head, shattering the plate and causing Kyung to bleed open. To Kyung's merit, he remained unmoved. "You... you wish to usurp my power!! Get out!! Leave my presence!!"
Kyung Dae-Seung bows to the ground and leaves the hall. Once out of sight, he raises his hand to the gash on his head. He lets out a single tear and continues on his way.
Once he was in his Imperial Chambers he saw Su-an on the bed, waiting for him to come. Su-an saw the gash on the head and gasped. "My husband... what happened?" Kyung smiles slightly and takes a seat on the bed. "The Emperor became upset at me and threw a food plate at me."
Su-an sobs. She moves to the door. "Attendents, bring water!" Once it was brought, Su-an cleaned Kyung up and wiped his brow. As time passed, Kyung and Su-an spent their time just being with each other.
"Oh!" speaks Su-an. "I almost forgot." She unveils a velvet covered parchment. "My father... left this for you. The instructions were for you to read this alone. I will leave for a short time now." With that, Su-an left the room for the pavillion.
Kyung sheds another tear as he opens the parchment. ~The Emperor was kind enough to leave me parting personal words.~ He unfurls the cloth and begins reading.
{Kyung Dae-Seung,
If you are reading this now, I have passed from this life, and according to my instructions, have passed from this life abruptly. It is my fault that the Empire has degenerated into what it has become. In my will, I left the Crown Prince the throne. I have a concern, though. I never fully taught him the nuances of the throne, how to control the powers given to him. I am giving you a decree, my final one. If my son, the Crown Prince, proves himself unable to handle the throne or causes further degeneration, you, as a Prince of Koryo, ARE TO REPLACE HIM AND PLACE YOURSELF ON THE THRONE. You have shown me that you are the most loyal subject and have true concern for the people. Please do this well on the throne if it comes to this. I wish you well, and I shall be watching.
Your Royal Majesty}
Kyung looks up wide eyed, hands shaken still with the parchment in them. "WHAT??"

;D Hey now, I believe in peace, love, and understanding.... but sometimes you need to have chaos. Heroes come from chaos, like the Archfiend, Kyung Dae-Seung and Choi Choong-hon. Without it, Uijong would still have been in power, the Chungs would still be alive, as would the sworn brothers. But it wouldn't be the same.
