The archfiend was sitting on a stool next to his wife's bed. He had ordered as many blankets and pillows that the servants could find. bu yong was tiny figure swimming in an ocean of cushions.
"sang jang goon" she said, "don't you think this is a bit much?"
the archfiend chuckled. he still loved it when she called him that. it reminded him when he was younger. "no no no, " he objected. "i am not going to take any chances with our baby! you won't have to lift a finger" he said beaming.
"but sang jang goon" she protested, "i never get to lift a finger anyway."
he patted her hands delightedly. "then i suppose you will lift it even less, heheheh" he was suddenly serious. "boo hin", he said drawing closer to her, "you don't know how blessed by the gods i feel to have another chance to be father to our child. i feel as if this is a sign."
she lowered her eyes and smiled. "buddha is smiling down on us" she said. suddenly she started gagging again.
"yah! yah! (hey hey)" the archfiend began shouting and waving his arms. "bring cold towels! bring more pillows! bring food - boo hin you must eat for our baby - bring tea!" he grabbed the tea by her bedside. Hae yon stepped before him and bowed.
"hwang sang bae ha, i believe warm tea is better for the empress' morning sickness" she advised.
bu yong nodded in consent. "she knows quite a lot about things like this sang jang goon. she has my complete confidence."
"oh?" he said. "oh. geuh leh geuh leh. go go hurry!" bu yong laughed and when the archfiend realized how he must appear, he chuckled too, his eyes crinkling in the corners.
hae yon poured some warm tea in a cup and then added a few drops of clear liquid in. from the empress' chambers, she heard the archfiend's delighted voice. "i'm going to be a father again! at this wintry old age..." no you won't, cho chun thought to herself...
