Kind of a weak cliffhanger for this one—I mean, we know nobody's going to get killed here; what's the point? And that phony sword-clanging noise, every single time the swords touch it’s the same noise, geez does that get annoying. Bit okay, mission accomplished, we know the two new guys can fight.
But credit all four of those actors for doing at least some of the sword work in that opening scene. Learned the moves and acquitted themselves fine. Some instructor did good work with them. The bald one, that’s Heuk Sedol from DJY. He’s not as big as I thought he was...can see why they cast him next to Choi Soo Jung in DJY. So far his character is kind of annoying. Hope that stops pronto. The other one, we’ve seen him a few times, most recently in Geunchogo.
“Neungsan is an expert with crescent broadswords, and my weapon of choice is [the] iron ball flail.” Well there’s some interesting news, certainly hope we get to see some of that! Not your typical weapons in these historicals.
“You have now become an emperor of a vast empire. An emperor must have an empress by his side to support him.” Oh good heavens is this going where I think it is? Please no, just don’t...Well at least for now Goongyae told them to shove it, so no harm done.
Misaeng: “How I resent my father. Why did he put me here?” Then she takes it back and blames karma...Nope, sorry kiddo you had it right the first time. Forcing her off on a monk, what a jackass.
“I will continuously hold masses to enlighten you.” Boy I bet that went over like a lead balloon. Of course nobody's going to complain out loud.
“What noble features!” Oh that is not a good sign....(I guess that's the monk's version of "Hubba Hubba!")
“I will work behind the scenes to strengthen His Majesty’s image as the real living Buddha.” Okay, everybody make your cable TV news network jokes here. Whichever network you want.
Kind of a bland episode—we’re in sort of a transition so things are quiet, can’t really help it. But unfortunately it looks like they’re setting up some sort of triangle just like we’ve seen a bunch of times before. And it never works. It almost worked in Geunchogo but they squandered the Yeohwa character (partly or mainly because of her off-air problems). I guess we can only hope for the best.
