This whole episode felt rather pointless—like such a letdown after the Goguryeo conflict. Sayu’s dead and you can feel the vacuum he left. And okay yes there’s a rebellion going but it has to be the least interesting rebellion we’ve ever had in a historical. The concept of it is fine but it’s just not generating much of a spark in the story. This prince, that prince, who cares. Even the battle, it was neat to see a battle in a grassy valley like that but it felt like small potatoes. And then the rebels retreated so nothing really was settled.
And by the way, how about some details on how the rebels were fended off despite having double the manpower. No it’s not impossible but the armies were meeting on equal terms, and it’s hard to belive that Wi Birang and Yeogusu together are a match for Jin Godo.
OK so now Yeohwa knows the truth. But I still don’t understand why KG sent Yeogusu to her alone. What was this supposed to accomplish at this point? And did he really think there wasn’t a good chance that Yeogusu would be murdered? By the same people and for the same reasons as when Yeogusu was a baby? There was no explanation or clear reason why KG would do this.
The only good thing about the entire first half of the episode is Yeohwa once again intimidating everyone else into allowing Yeogusu to leave unharmed. She never disappoints. Never.
But she guided him out of Wiryegung at night, and then suddenly it’s broad daylight. Huh?
The producers tried to help it all along by extra-loading it up with dramatic music, but that didn’t help it. Not one bit. And it became an annoyance after a while.
“Why did he send him only now?” And yet again you can’t help but feel sorry for Yeohwa’s position, learning of her son just in time to send him away as an enemy. Awful. But good heavens suddenly she’s coughed up a little blood...and we all know what that means! Please tell me this won’t happen.
The one welcome thing in the entire episode was the return of Eul Mahul and Dandan. Even that didn’t carry the weight that it should have...but those two have been unsung heroes of the series so it was good to see them again. Especially Dandan.
Queen: “Can it be that he’s going to say he’ll make Yeogusu the Wiryegung ruler if the rebellion stops?” That actually is a pretty astute guess. I will say, you really do not know how this is going to resolve itself. So this isn’t going according to some old, tired formula...but like I said, it’s just not rousing up much enthusiasm, at least not for me. Like they’re just trying to fill up four episodes after Sayu died to bring it to an even 60.
