So in spite of us being in the middle of the Goguryeo war—KG's biggest achievement—at least one-third of this episode, maybe 40 percent, was about princesses. Good grief. Whatever you want to say about the writing in this series, good or bad, what’s happening lately is not at all consistent with everything earlier. Clearly there is some big-time executive meddling going on...but let’s save that topic for the wrap-up thread.
Loved the opening sequence! Fleeing through the mist, I don’t think we’ve ever had a mist scene like that before. Great visual. Except how are those soldiers on foot keeping up with the horsemen? Oh well.
“There’s a teaching from Lao Tzu: If you know when to stop, you won’t face danger.” Very nice. And certainly the smartest thing Dugo has said in the entire series.
Bratty princess: “I hate father and Ajikki. I hate Sa Gi too. How can he lie to his own wife like this?” And then the queen smiles at her in that condescending way again. Well the princess has every right to be frustrated. Who’d have thought she would turn into a sympathetic character.
“Can’t he marry Princess Jin Gu? He likes her so much.” What has gotten into Dugo? Suddenly he’s the voice of reason. It’s a nice development.
Yeogusu: “Then why did you marry the Wiryegung ruler? Was the only reason to embrace King Goi’s and King Chogo’s lines?” HA! Yeah he’s got you there dad.
Why do people keep walking into scenes and overhearing things at crucial times? It’s happening way, way too often lately. Understandable that it’s a necessary plot device sometimes but not this much.
The narrated text:
Really? KG is right out there in the open, in front of the enemy fortress—and with no helmet? If he’s really that stupid then maybe it’s no big deal, there isn’t enough of a brain to need to protect.
Always want to give big credit to the stunt guys who take arrows to the chest. And there were a bunch of them here. Well done guys. Same with the guys who got lit on fire from the firebombs. Have to appreciate their work.
And speaking of that, hey, firebombs in the daytime! They didn’t turn it into a nighttime scene just for visual effect. That’s almost unheard of for a historical. Good for them.
So very, very disappointing that they’ve turned Yeohwa into the leader of an evil cabal. What a waste of a terrific character. We’ve seen characters squandered before but nothing like this.
“Just today 1,200 soldiers were injured or killed.” WHAT? Is there any truth to that? For an army of Baekje’s size that’s a staggering number.
Really? Twenty Baekje troops find a completely unguarded, unobserved section of wall and start climbing it unnoticed? And then get within shooting distance of Sayu with nobody seeing them? Stop it. We had the same silly thing happen in Liaoxi at least once. That’s just lazy writing and staging. How about bringing back the hang gliders? You can work something plausible with those, and they’ve proven successful.
At this point it’s understandable how there got to be some viewer frustration over the series. I’m ready for it to wrap things up and end. Just five more episodes. Hopefully Sayu doesn’t get killed by an angry princess.

The narrated text:
The battle between Baekje and Goguryeo was a huge incident. Goguryeo was a powerful country that even China couldn’t fight easily. Before King Geunchogo, Baekje was a small country. It couldn’t imagine fighting a country like Goguryeo. But Baekje was going to fight Goguryeo and threatened Nampeyongyangseong. It took two years to advance to Nampeyongyangseong. The battle against Goguryeo wasn’t an easy one.“You want me to run from Yeogu? You want me to leave my soldiers to save my life?” The same issue that was presented very well in the Jingbirok series, about whether or not a king should move to safer ground. Presented very well here too, and Sayu being a good character also helps.
