Some pretty good combat to open the episode...except between the darkness and the hand-held camera shaking all over the place, it was hard to tell who was who sometimes. Not the first time we’ve had that issue.
Yeohwa with the spit-take to keep Annoying Girl awake, if you saw that coming you’re lying! What a weird moment—but it worked, give her credit. And after what Yeohwa did for her, probably saving the baby’s life and maybe hers too, if she so much as says one bad word about Yeohwa for the rest of the series then a pox on her.
“Archers!” Well gee that took long enough. Were they getting paid by the hour?
“I feel bad about trying to harm Sosukdang’s baby.” So do we forgive grandpa? Interesting question. At least he realized it before he died, so good for him for that.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t bring him back. I begged.” Yes she did, and apparently she also got beaten up once she got home to try to make her talk. How much does Dandan have to do before somebody says “thank you”? Yeohwa is darned lucky to have her.
“This isn’t your fault. It’s mine.” Well good for Murong Chui. That’s a leader right there.
“The emperor called us back. We must attack Yeogu quickly.” Oooh, so close, that’s NOT a leader right there.
“If they were retreating, they would do it so you shouldn’t notice. Why would they light up torches for 4km?” Yeah speaking of boneheaded leadership, KG fell for that one hook, line and sinker. Not his finest moment. Good thing Ajikai stated the obvious.
Okay and if the Baekjeans know it’s dumb to light up torches, what’s with their own flaming arrows? Oh well gotta love TV!
Oh come on now, the Baekje king and the Yan prince are going to have a sword-duel? Really? Ugh. Gotta love TV.
“On your knees!” That’s not not cool at all--KG is showing respect to Murong Chui and Ajikai is humiliating Chui’s troops. But give KG credit for showing some decency to Chui. And I gotta say, that whole sequence made me feel a lot better about what KG did. His signature achievement so far as king is double-crossing an ally. Yes the ally was going to double-cross him anyway, but it still doesn’t make him the most admirable lead character, at least not yet. His dignity towards Chui here redeemed him a little.
“Such sorrowful indignation doesn’t suit people like you and me.” Maybe it was by accident but that was a great line from KG. Really nice.
The narrated text:
“Eoraha is coming. You’re dead meat!” Made me laugh. Well finally there’s a tiny little microscopic shred of something resembling respectable trash-talking. Thank you Jin Godo.
“We have to kill Sosukdang and Sayu’s baby.” Oh good grief not this again. Enough already!
At least they took the chains off of Annoying Girl. Oh wait, now they’re on Yeomong! Brawny, muscular he-man that he is. So does the baby get them next?
Overall this was an okay episode, not great but not bad. The best thing about it by far is that the historically unproven Liaoxi storyline is done and gone. Hooray for that.
p.s. Do I remember correctly, reading something about the reason for grandpa not being in some episodes is that he was in legal trouble of some sort?

The narrated text:
With the alliance with Goguryeo, Baekje defeated Yan and took Guangyangcheng. Baekje gained control of Liaoxi. King Geunchogo achieved his great plan to occupy Liaoxi. Sayu was also able to regain Gungnaeseong [in Liaodong] from this battle. However, the alliance was only temporary.“I received a letter for you three months ago, but I kept it from you because of battle.” Are you kidding me? KG should have him flogged. And come on, why withhold the news that the old man died? He’s an old man, it’s not going to shock anybody. Sadden, absolutely, but KG should have been told.
