Loved the beginning, liked the ending, the middle not so much.
“If it wasn’t a crime for King Biryu to sit on the throne, it can’t be a crime for my father.” Great opening scene! Yeohwa giving it right back to the councilors, how can you not like her. And then the silence after Yeogu said Yeohwa would be the first queen, that was outstanding. Everything just hung there for what seemed like forever. You don’t get a lot of silence in moments like that in these shows and it’s too bad.
“Are you little children? Why do you always do this when you don’t like something? Get up and state your opinions. I won’t allow this kind of behavior in Namdang any more.” Loved that. Definitely more potential for this actor as a king than as a rebel leader.
“It was an arranged marriage...a marriage of convenience. If there isn’t any profit in it, it can be annulled.” Hae Geon is doing what Gye told him to do...but this continues to be the one big problem hanging over things, the fact that he’s walking around as a free man. The queen is sitting in prison for poisoning Biryu...and she’s the freaking queen! Why does Hae get easier treatment?
Things went downhill when we got into that multi-scene spat between Yeohwa and Annoying Girl. Unfortunately this isn’t going away and it looks like we’re stuck with it. A lot of the problem is that AG just isn’t in Yeohwa’s league. She’s younger, less mature, less wise, and more importantly at times has come off as sort of bratty. She doesn’t seem to be royal material, and on top of that just isn’t someone we’d see as a sympathetic character.
What’s the deal with Ajikai’s hair all of a sudden?
“If I can’t become the first queen, my child can’t become the crown prince.” Are you sure? What if the first queen doesn’t produce any kids? I think she’s wrong.
“My father ruled for 40 years and did not destroy Wiryegung. Before he died, he told me not to be hostile to Wiryegung. Why did he say that? Wiryegung is a pillar of Baekje. It can’t be destroyed all at once. It has to be melted slowly.” Well okay, now we’re getting somewhere, finally Yeogu is starting to explain the Yeohwa thing...but geez that last sentence, why does he think eliminating it is necessary?
“Tell me the truth. You couldn’t murder my father.” Yeohwa really is sharp. Give her a prize.
“You stabbed father because of me? I’m the person who made father die like that.” She actually bought that? Cancel the prize.
Yeogu: “I’m not very good at expressing my feelings.” Well there’s the understatement of the series!
How did Yeohwa get the silk tie back? Wasn’t Sayu holding it at one point? Hard to believe it ever made it back into her hands.
The narrated text:
“Exchange your life for Yeochan’s.” Well that was some ending. The queen ain’t dead yet. Please tell me Yeomin won’t go stupid after finally showing some brains.

The narrated text:
In 346 Bu Yeojun dies. He became the 12th Eoraha of Baekje. He ruled for less than three years. His posthumous epithet is King Gye. Due to his short reign, he didn’t accomplish much for Baekje. After his death, King Chogo’s royal line again takes the throne in Baekje.Sure was nice to see the old guy back again. And Yeomong, I had completely forgotten about him and now he’s all grown up, what a surprise when he came walking in.
“Exchange your life for Yeochan’s.” Well that was some ending. The queen ain’t dead yet. Please tell me Yeomin won’t go stupid after finally showing some brains.
