This one could have used a little more effort setting things up. Even a narration would have helped a lot. We’ve jumped forward two years, we saw that at the end of the previous episode. Now all of a sudden Sayu and Yeochan and Yeohwi are in the same room and everybody’s talking like family. What the heck?
“Can a kitten become a tiger if it cries out loud?” Sayu continues to be a good character and the guy playing him is doing a nice job. Starting to wonder if maybe he should have played Yeogu...but too soon to open up that can of worms.
Come on, the king of Goguryeo wandering around with a small army force out in the middle of disputed territory? And what was that silliness with the arrows? Nothing even remotely like that would ever be allowed to happen. Yeah it’s TV but even so...it looks like they’re pushing this kind of thing for the romance angle and it isn’t necessary.
But wow look at those armors they're wearing!
Somebody explain to me why the Buyeo people are still around. Why should they want to help Baekje reclaim the Daebang land? They can claim the territory they won and let the Baekje people move on and deal with their own problem if they want to. “Goguryeo is my enemy,” says Wi Birang...well okay but this still needs more attention and substance so we get a plausible explanation. It’s not impossible to believe if we at least get a good reason for it.
“My father King Bunseo made a big mistake once. He took Biryu lightly and didn’t stop him in the beginning.” There’s the kind of thoughtful writing we haven’t gotten as much of lately. Always good to see these scenes where the characters show they think about their situations like real people do.
Yeogu: “Why is he coming so soon?” Uh, maybe because you poked at Sayu with that message and he’s a hothead? Duh!
“Nobody in Baekje will allow the two of you to be together.” Yeah I’m wondering how they plan to handle that, if it ever gets that far. Putting the two of them together is going to take some work in the storyline.
“You should see Buyeo Jun himself and the king of Goguryeo.” No. Just no. Kings and whatever-Yeogu-is-at-this-point, those guys just don’t do that. I don’t want to see this happen.
In case anybody else was wondering like I was, “Ungniha” is Baekje’s name for the Han River. According to Wikipedia it translates to “Fragrant Mile River.” Not sure what was fragrant but there you have it.
Things started to get interesting at the end, with the three different sides all trying to outguess the other and maneuver for advantage. Storyline shows a lot of promise right now; hopefully it builds well on what’s been set up (and doesn’t get too personal over Yeohwa).
