I thought this was a terrific episode. Really first-rate. Yeah it’s mostly fictional and that takes a little of the fun away but we have a coherent story with a lot of substance and angles, and it was all working well in this one...
...starting right off the bat. “This is why you didn’t become king. You’re not capable.” Wow that was a good scene between BJ and Biryu’s father.
Yeogu taking his mother’s ring, that was a very nice touch. Presumably we’ll always see it prominently on his hand. (Although both of them having similar ring sizes, that’s a stretch...but that’s sort of nit-picky.)
Gee the whole thing with BJ snatching the throne didn’t go at all like I expected. Much quieter and less acrimonious. That isn’t to fault it at all, just unexpected.
Hmm, evil laughter from BJ. Not a good sign...although in this case it’s not entirely inappropriate. Might have to say it was part happy laughter, or maybe relief? So we’ll let this one slide.
BJ offering to make the crown prince his successor, that was quite a surprise
“Marry me.” And wow talk about a surprise! Did not see that coming at all...but you can see how it would make sense for BJ to have planned that in his head, since he always loved the queen. Plus it keeps the crown prince in play too, which is good for the storyline. Excellent writing.
That glimpse of the queen sitting by Biryu’s casket after everything played out, there’s exactly why I think so much of Choe Myonug-gil. Didn’t say a word but you could just see what was going through the queen’s head, the regret and the second-guessing herself.
So now it looks like Yeogu is going to be almost a fugitive of sorts and may be fighting for his life. Let’s hope the series doesn’t descend into silliness over this and turn away from what’s been working so well.
