Okay so Yeohwa is in Goguryeo and that relationship is now official, so hopefully her part of the story will settle down for a while. It hasn’t been bad and I like her character a lot but there’s been enough focus on it for now.
More annoying things in this episode than in the previous ones. For one thing, how did Yeogu get all the way over to Wirye Palace so quickly? Unfortunately we’re developing a problem with shrinking distances between places. People go back and forth to Wirye like it’s just down the street. And then he sneaks all the way inside to get to Yeohwa without anybody spotting him. Buyeo Jun needs to hire better security.
Was kind of disappointed with the scene where the crown prince went nuts and stabbed some guys. I was hoping for a complex, interesting character out of him going forward, like Yeon Namseng was in DJY, someone else who had been spurned by his father. But this scene just made him look like a spoiled brat having a temper tantrum.
Everybody clearing the building for a conversation, we had a scene just like that in GOW and it was one of the best scenes in the series. This one must have been inspired by that one. This scene wasn’t a major plot point like that one was but the idea was the same.
Well thank you VERY much Mr. or Ms. Director for the close-up shot of Prince Yeosan vomiting—what a sparkling moment of visual beauty that was. Sheesh! One of these days they’ll make cameras that you can move around so you can pull them back a ways.
Was it some sort of custom on the peninsula back then to smash drinking cups? The Sayu/BJ meeting, this wasn’t the first time we’d seen everybody in a scene throw their cups on the floor.
The narrated text:
Does anybody really believe that BJ and the queen can just both walk into the woods alone and meet and talk? No security concerns about that? And nobody’s gonna tell the king that his wife is sneaking around with his bitter rival? Really?
“...know that I have always held you in the utmost regard as my spouse and royal consort.” Um, better hurry up and rethink that one, dude...the clock is ticking on the poison she slipped you.
And speaking of the poison, that has got to be the slowest-acting poison we’ve ever had in a historical. And it lasts exactly long enough for BJ to show up and trash-talk him before he grabs his chest. Blecch, what is it with weird poisons in these shows. Always seems to be treated like a free pass to write whatever the writers want to with no common sense.
Big turning point coming now, obviously. Looking forward to the next episode, mainly to see what happens to the crown prince because you really aren’t sure right now just what’s going to happen to him. And to the queen, for that matter.

The narrated text:
This strategic marriage between Wirye Palace and Goguryeo was the very spark which ignited a massive internal conflict within Baekje. Gaining Princess Buyeo Hwa as his consort, Sayu finally obtains the just cause he sought to subjugate Baekje. His princpital motive was that of gaining control of the Han River, and using the old Daifang territory as the foothold leading to his conquest of the prosperous Hanseong, Baekje’s vital center. One welcome development in this one was some better music. Added some winds to the score, finally, and a nice 5/4 piece when BJ said goodbye to Yeohwa. Still not great but at least it was a little better.
