Very interesting story in this one about the capital move. Glad they're depicting some of it and not just rushing through it. Amazing to think it was even attempted, much less pulled off. I hope they stick with it--and it would be nice to get some of those on-the-street scenes to see what the ordinary citizens thought of all this.
Here's the narration text about it:
And frankly, Yangbaek should have stepped forward and confessed that it was his fault so KJ wouldn't have to take the blame and get chewed out by Choe. Good for KJ, The Buck Stops Here, he was being a good leader, but I was disappointed that Yangbaek didn't do the right thing.
"Enough chatter. Get the tables ready." Hey Gannan gets a promotion! And sticks it to the battleaxe. But really what was the point of rubbing that in? Are we supposed to enjoy it like Nyah nyah ha ha mean pushy supervisor got snubbed, is that the idea? Kind of childish.
I like the casting of the king. This is a good part for him and so far he's playing it well. I also like the guy playing Kim Kyongson; he's good too.
Gotta call shenanigans. We're told that the assassination screw-up was bad because it forced the move to happen faster. But then Choe's people go tell the king he has to hurry and leave Gaegyeong because monsoons are coming. Okay so if the idea is to avoid the monsoons, isn't moving faster a good thing? Hmm...Well as we can see, they didn't avoid the monsoons anyway.
Then we saw everybody walking across mudflats, apparently at low tide, but where was that? And then the king climbing over a wall of some sort? For some reason the series is having trouble showing us a proper view of the Ganghwa setting. They've been trying to give hints and glimpses and sideways shots and it's getting confusing. Wish they'd have done a CGI or just something basic to give us an idea of what this all looks like.
Sartai: "We'll burn it until not even an ant is left." Geez dude, what did ants ever do to you?
Yeah KJ is absolutely right, it's not appropriate for him to have a house that nice at a time like this...and VERY not appropriate for Songi to arrange it for him.
"I tried to douse the fire in my heart. But I couldn't." Oh and speaking of inappropriate..."I missed you so." Ugh.
At least she mentioned Wola; glad Wola hasn't been forgotten. Still waiting for a payoff on that whole thing.
"It's all so embarrassing. I wish I could take up a distant post just like you." Well good, Kyongson knows the true story now. And it's also good to hear KJ use the word "embarrassing." He always looks uncomfortable around her but he never says anything so we didn't know for sure.
"Men live for honor and power, but women live for love." Hmm.....anybody wanna comment on that?
The second narration:
Choe U: "He's never shown confidence and strength. Not once." Well then he wasn't a good choice for the job, was he now. Whose fault is that?
"What can we do? How can we save the Tripitaka?" Well duh, you could have brought it with you to the island. Not like the Mongols haven't already gone out of their way to burn a temple or anything. Sheesh.
Wow, the next episode puts us halfway through the series. And they're still telling the larger story without hyper-focusing on KJ and creating all kinds of fictional storylines to put him front and center. I'm really appreciating that.
Here's the narration text about it:
July 6, 1232, the 19th year of Kojong's reign. After 300 years, the imperial house left Kaegyeong. Accomplished with speed and precision under Choe U's forceful hand. It was the monsoon season and only a month earlier, Kojong's queen had passed. Some 300,000 people traveled fifty miles on the road to Kanghwa. The island couldn't possibly support so large a number. Neither food nor accommodations were adequately prepared. We can imagine how Choe U felt, pressed to move the capital."It breaks my heart that you didn't trust me." Um, what? Was any of this about trust? No. Yangbaek wanted to kill Hong Bokwon. He got tempted and did a stupid thing, that's all. The emotional speech from KJ, didn't like it, it was silly and pointless. Yangbaek was a knucklehead and nothing more than that.

The second narration:
In the 8th month of the 19th year of Kojong's reign, within a month of moving the capital, Marshal Sartai marched with 10,000 cavalry across the Yalu. So began the Second Mongol War.Ugh, more of the evil laughing from Mongol generals. Stop it!
