But why would she care about her any more than any of the other court ladies? I get that they are close, but she has been pretty cruel in her treatment of Hae Soo. I see that she is trying to make Hae Soo stronger and more resilent, but why take such interest in her specifically? (guess it's just part of the storyline?) I wish I knew about the punishenet of kneeling while holding you hands above your head when my kids were little--- I see it on "Return of Superman" with the dads using on their kids and for someone like me that would be the worst punishment! How can anyone hold their arms over their head so long?? My arms ache just thinking about it!

I see that she is trying to make Hae Soo stronger and more resilent, but why take such interest in her specifically? (guess it's just part of the storyline?) I told you why, or should I say Court Lady Oh told us... it's because Hae Soo reminds her of herself when she was young. She is more strict with Hae Soo because she cares that much more. She feels if she doesn't discipline her she would get hurt. She was never cruel to her, not that I can remember, just very strict. Again, the reason she cares more for Hae Soo than other court ladies is because Hae Soo is so trusting of everyone and is so eager to help that Court Lady Oh feels it's dangerous for her and that she may end up losing her life for trusting the wrong person or helping the wrong person. Or helping the right person but in that way incurring the anger of the wrong person. All this reminds her of herself and therefore she feels more for Hae Soo than someone else.

Episode 9. SYNOPSIS
Just as Prince So reaches the top of the temple, it starts to rain. All the people thank him and call him their savior. Hae Soo keeps having flashforwards of Prince So as Gwangjong the 4th king of Goryeo, the king who kills off all his brothers and nephews and anyone else in his way.

Queen Yoo and Prince Yo bitterly disappointed that Prince Yo was not the leader of the rain ritual.
Hae Soo goes to Ji Mong to find out more about the future. Ji Mong tells her she must not get involved no matter what.
When the King asks Prince So what he wants as a reward for the rain Prince So asks for Hae Soo. His wish is granted. The King also orders Prince Eun to marry the Grand General's daughter Soon Deok. Prince Eun very unhappy.
Prince Wook tells Hae Soo because the rain celebration is Prince Eun's marriage no court lady will be released this time. They agree to wait for another chance for her to be released from the palace.
During Prince Eun's wedding-gift opening Hae Soo has another flashforward ~ Prince Eun dying in the hands of Prince So.
Hae Soo tells Prince Wook to be careful of Prince So, to never stand in his way. She tells Prince Wook she wants to be far away from the palace and he promises to get her out soon.
Prince So is invited to eat dinner with his immediate family: Queen Yoo, Prince Yo, and Prince Jung. But soon realizes there's an ulterior motive for this "friendly" gathering. Queen Yoo wants Prince So to kill the Crown Prince. Prince So leaves them with disgust. He is very bitter and calls himself a fool for expecting a genuine reconciliation.
Prince So seeks comfort from Hae Soo after his sad encounter with his family. When she seems to reject him as well, he becomes angry and tells her she at least should not act this way towards him... because she is his woman. Then he kisses her.
Episode 9. REVIEW
Their first kiss! I guess more of a stolen kiss but still...
Wow, an excellent episode. Hubby is really enjoying it too. But really got me all riled up because of this Gwangjong thing. I don't know what to think. Hubby and I are of the same mind that Prince So still may not be Gwangjong...
Those two, Queen Yoo and Prince Yo ~ they are some thing else! I felt so bad for Prince So. And then on top of that when he gets the cold treatment from Hae Soo too, it almost broke my heart. Poor Prince So!!
I felt such a rush of affection for Prince Jung when he told his mother off for the way she treated Prince So before walking off in a huff. Thank goodness SOMEONE is on Prince So's side!

Finally, we agree on something! (LOL) I don't think Prince So is Gwangjong either! Yeah, Queen Yoo and Prince Yo are really something. I have to say I almost felt sorry for Prince Yo, when his mother looked up to him at the rain ritual when he was standing up above everyone and she realized that Prince So was the one getting all the praise for getting it to rain. Like the old saying "If looks could kill", the look she gave Prince Yo was so cruel. Felt alot of respect for Prince Jung when he stood up for Prince So I am glad your hubby is enjoying this drama,too-- it is one of the best I have ever watched-- I just want to sit and watch and watch and watch and watch--but then it will end and I will be sooooo sad.

Finally, we agree on something! I don't think we were really disagreeing before, more like I was just pointing out something you missed. I'm guessing both our favorite Prince is Wang So. Who is your favorite after that? My favorite after Prince So is Prince Eun. I think he's cute as a button. My hubby's favorite is Prince Baek Ah.

For me it is a toss-up, I really like Prince Wook, but Prince So is so good looking-- when he smiles, I just melt! Prince Wook, to me seems likes the type of guy that "would have your back", would be there when you had a bad day, or when you thought the whole world around you was a mess, someone who would sit with you and let you whine and complain to your hearts content. Maybe that is why I have a hard time seeing Prince Wook with Hae Soo, Prince So is like the typical "bad boy"-- and you know that kind always gets the girl! I like Prince Baek Ah,too -- he seems really even tempered and understanding-- I don't know if I could name anything specific, but that is just what I think. I thnk Prince Baek Ah has nice looking eys, too-- not creepy looking ones like Prince Yo (that eyeliner really helps him look evil). Prince Eun would be great as a younger brother, he is cute as a button, so funny--his expressions and actions are great. I don't think I would ever stop laughing if he was around. On a side note, I was shopping today and I saw a young guy with hair in a "side swept' hair style like Prince So's and it made me smile and than I laugh to/at myself (like "Lady, you are crazy-- why would Prince So be shopping here"!)

1) For me it is a toss-up, I really like Prince Wook, but Prince So is so good looking 2) Prince So is like the typical "bad boy"-- and you know that kind always gets the girl! 3) not creepy looking ones like Prince Yo (that eyeliner really helps him look evil). 4) Prince Eun would be great as a younger brother, he is cute as a button, so funny 1) Oh, Prince So is not your first choice - sorry for assuming. I really like Prince Wook too, I think he's cute and very manly. In any other circumstance I could have gone for him in a big way BUT not when Prince So is around. Another reason I don't like Prince Wook as much as I would is because I'm jealous for Prince So - Hae Soo is for Prince So!! - stay away, 8th Prince Wook!! 2) I don't really consider Prince So as a "bad boy," just mistreated and misunderstood. 3) I really love Prince Yo as the villain, he really adds some fun evil excitement to the drama. Love the eyelined eyes and the way he sneers at everybody. And he's not interested in Hae Soo at all, so far. 4) Have to confess why I particularly like Prince Eun. My mom (who saw SH:R three times already) told me Prince Eun is a member of EXO! I normally don't look up anyone until after I finish the series but I couldn't resist and looked him up. Ohmgod, he is so cute as a singer! I've been listening to their music and watching their videos everyday since. They're all so cute!! My fave songs: Love Me Right, Call Me Baby, Growl, and Monster. So fun!! Prince Eun has such an awesome voice!! (Yesung of Super Junior still my fave tho!)

Episode 10. SYNOPSIS Hae Soo tells Prince So there is someone else that she likes. He doesn't seem too fazed by this. He says as long as it's not Baek Ah then it's okay. Hae Soo meets Prince Wook in the cave again. But this time they get caught by Court Lady Oh. Court Lady Oh asks Soo to leave the palace and go to her hometown with her. Because of her health, she has permission to leave. Soo tells her that Prince Wook proposed to her and that she's thinking of accepting. Court Lady Oh asks what about the 4th Prince then? She asks if Soo thinks she can survive between the two Princes. Queen Yoo, Minister Park, Prince Won get together to discuss how to separate Prince So from the King and the Crown Prince. They're planning to make it look as if Prince So is aiming to become Crown Prince. Prince Wook tells his family he wants to marry Hae Soo and live away from the palace. He says he has no interest in the throne. Princess Yeon Hwa very upset. She goes off to see Queen Yoo. Problems arise with the Crown Prince's in-laws and some subjects demand Prince Moo step down and Prince So take his place. The King not happy. The King tells Prince So it's time for him to return to his adopted region Shinju, that there are some who want him to be Crown Prince. The King says Queen Yoo is behind it. Prince So says he has never shared her goals and it's unfair to be ousted from the palace when he hasn't done anything wrong. The King says his hands are tied. Prince Moo doesn't stand up for Prince So. Prince So confronts Queen Yoo. She says she's doing this all for him. He doesn't buy it. She says the Crown Prince is due to die at the next festival, that a poisoned teacup has already been sent. Prince So says he'll stop it somehow. At the festival they order tea for the Crown Prince. Just as Prince So gets up to say something he sees that the court lady who is bringing the tea to Prince Moo is no other than Hae Soo. He's taken off guard but recovers to say that he would like to receive three drinks from the Crown Prince. When Soo hands him the teacup he drops it, thinking this takes care of the poisoned cup. But during his second drink he realizes it's not the teacup that was poisoned but the tea itself. He goes through the three drinks, knowing he is being poisoned. Episode REVIEW So good! I'm sorry if I'm watching too slowly, Birdy. It's just that because I'm watching with Hubby I have to keep at his pace. Believe me it's killing me. And I promised not to watch ahead of him. I just keep watching the previous episodes over and over again. That part I don't mind. This episode was soooo good. It just keeps getting better and better. Prince Wook is starting to really hate Prince So. He is jealous and feels threatened by Soo's relationship with the 4th Prince. In the archery scene we all know who's face he's picturing when he shoots that arrow. That Queen Yoo is so evil! How can she be like that to her own son?? She's like an animal who, once she rejects her young, she want it dead and gone from her forever. Even with his scar covered she wants nothing to do with him. I really find her so cruel. Oh my goodness, the ending of this episode just about killed me. Of course I know Prince So doesn't die (we have 10 more episodes to go) but still, it was so hard for me to watch him drink the poison. And there's Soo looking so demure and calm as she's handing him the poison...!! I loved the scene when Prince So goes to kiss Hae Soo and when she pulls away he says not to worry, that he won't without her permission from now on. Oh, he is so sweet!!!!

No worries-- I have been watching ahead, but mostly because those endings drive me crazy! I think I will just watch the first few minutes to see what happens and next thing I know the episode is over!!! (I have to say the best part about watching ahead is going: "Oh Jewel is gonna be so mad when she watches this" or "Jewel is gonna be so happy when she sees this" --- it just adds to the excitment! ) I'm gonna rewatch some episodes, so just keep on watching and I'll jump in...

Episode 11
Wow. This was another excellent episode. Just packed with excitement - almost every moment.
It was heartbreaking for me to watch Prince So drinking the poison while longingly looking at Hae Soo. It was like he was memorizing her face in case he didn't survive this ordeal. And then when he was following her as she was walking away and he was slowing being seized by the poison spreading in his body. So sad.
Queen Yoo is truly evil. How could she watch her own son drinking poison and not one ounce of pity, sympathy, regret, nothing. Just that hateful smirk on her face. I have to say all along I was hoping there was another reason she seemed to hate Prince So so much, that it was all a cover-up to protect him or something. Now I know she really truly cares nothing for him. Even Princess Yeon Hwa is astonished at her cold-heartedness when she looked at her with that incredulous look after Prince So walked away from the festival.
So Hae Soo gets arrested for poisoning Prince So. Whenever I watch these historical dramas where someone is framed I always think how easy it is to be framed. A simple planting of some item in your room and presto you're a traitor or a murderer. Unbelievable.
Prince So survives the poison because thankfully while he was being trained under the Grand General he was also trained to build immunity to poison. Hubby guessed this is what was gonna happen - hate it when he's right. Prince So, though still very weak, goes to visit Hae Soo in prison. This scene was so sad. Prince So's grief-stricken face as he looks at Hae Soo's tortured and bloodied body through the bars. What made this scene so poignant is not so much the words they say but the words left unsaid.
Prince So tells Prince Wook that Queen Yoo is behind this whole thing and asks Prince Wook to find the evidence. Prince Wook promises he would. But when he does he finds the person behind it is his sister Princess Yeon Hwa and his hands are tied. He cannot betray her and therefore betray his family name. I really felt for him. When he stands outside the prison building, realizing he can no longer help Hae Soo, I did feel very bad for him. But he shouldn't have dropped his hairpin on the ground like that. When they find the spying maid and see the wound on her neck they would know the wound was made by a hairpin and then if someone finds that hairpin, wouldn't they put two and two together? Wouldn't they know that hairpin belongs to Prince Wook?
Prince So confronts the King to try to save Hae Soo, saying how she is innocent. The King says he has to sacrifice a little life to save a big one. Prince So accuses him of being unfair, causing the King to become very angry. The King tells Prince So if he continues he may lose his own life.
Prince Wook goes to see Court Lady Oh. He asks her to step up to save Soo, that the king would listen to her. Court Lady Oh asks Prince Wook why does he not step up himself. She says greed for the throne must be standing in his way. She says she will talk to the King, not because Prince Wook asked her to, but because she cares for Soo like a daughter. She tells Prince Wook he was not able to save anyone, that he was pretty much ineffective. She says he will regret having turned his back on Hae Soo. I did feel bad for Prince Wook. He couldn't step up to save Hae Soo himself because of Princess Yeon Hwa as we know, not for the greed of the throne.
Court Lady Oh does speak with the King. She says she'll sacrifice her life for Hae Soo. She tells him she could do nothing when Queen Yoo caused her to miscarry the King's baby years ago but this time will not just stand by while Queen Yoo kills Hae Soo who is like a daughter to her. Oh gosh, this scene was so sad. Now we understand fully the animosity between Court Lady Oh and Queen Yoo.
Hae Soo is saved from execution. But she finds at the cost of Court Lady Oh. That cave scene was so sad. (By this time I was in uncontrollable tears.)
That scene where Hae Soo is doing kneeling protest has got to be one of my favorite scenes of all time in K drama. Prince Wook appears as if to comfort Hae Soo and then he slowely turns away. He literally turns his back on her. Just as she is in absolute despair someone appears besides her and covers her from the rain with his cape - it's Prince So, of course. Always appearing to save and comfort her without fail. Awww. Loved this scene.
So Court Lady Oh is executed - hung till dead. I was so sad. I still hoped she'd be saved too. Hubby was very sad too. She was one of his favorites.
Very sad and exciting episode.

Yes, I agree this is one great episode-- this is why I keep watching, but I have stopped at ep 14, I am sad at thinking this is going to end, I am enjoying it way too much! When Prince So drank the poison-- great acting-- when he was following her-- I was screaming "Turn around, turn around!!" I feel sorry for Prince Wook-- to have to deal with his mother AND his sister, how tough it must be to have to be loyal to such people! When he stood outside of the prison, I just wanted to cry. Although, you probably won't agree with me-- I guess this is why I thought the relationship between Court Lady Oh and Hae Soo was too much to beleive-- it made a perfect out for saving Hae Soo's life. I just wish Lady Oh would have told Hae Soo that she was dying from a disease--it might have made it a bit easier for Hae Soo to bear, that she was sacrificing her life to save Hae Soo-- it would just seem that way to everyone who didn't know she was really dying. My intial thought when Hae Soo started her "kneeling protest? "Wow, she must have watched a lot of k-dramas in her other life"-- but joking aside it was a great scene, when Wook started to walk out to her, and then she looked over at him, with the rain the area near the ground looked "cloudy" and it was almost like she was dreaming-- but when Wook took those steps back-- wow! who knew a scene showing someone's shoes could show so much meaning. When So showed up and held his cloak over her-- I was thinking he looked just like Dracula! (Yeah, I had some really weird perceptions in this episode!) Favorite line in this episode? When the Queen tells Prince Wook "What good is it to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth, he should know who the owner of that table is" Yep-- you may be a Prince, but what good is it if you don't play the game with the right people? She is one mean person! Loved the song playing when Lady was dying-- so beautiful

Of course it makes sense to give up your life for someone you love, and of course it has to be set up like that. Why should that make Court Lady Oh's love for Hae Soo any more unbelievable than anyone else's? 2) She does tell her, in the cave. And she also says she's doing this for the King too. 3) It's ironic that the one person Hae Soo thought would never change, that would never hurt her is the one person she couldn't count on. 4) It's almost like they're saying death can be beautiful if you're dying for the right reason.

You are right-- Lady Oh does say " I can't live long anyways" and I took that as she was older than Hae Soo so she can't live longer, she was an older person-- I was thinking she should have said "I am sick, I will die soon anyways"-- which would not make it any easier for Hae Soo to accept but it the long run make it easier for her to bear-- Still can't get the picture of Wook's feet slowing stepping back away from Hae Soo, great visualization! love what you said about the song, the melody/singing was beautiful-- I found it on YouTube so I could understand the lyrics and it IS just a beautiful song.

1) I was thinking she should have said "I am sick, I will die soon anyways"-- which would not make it any easier for Hae Soo to accept but it the long run make it easier for her to bear-- 2) Still can't get the picture of Wook's feet slowing stepping back away from Hae Soo, great visualization! 1) It really is implied that Hae Soo knows Court Lady Oh is dying of a disease. In earlier episodes, Hae Soo knew that Court Lady couldn't eat anything other than gruel because of her stomach pains, and that one time she faints on her and Hae Soo had to take care of her. Another time Court Lady Oh asks Hae Soo to go away and live with her in her hometown, that because of her failing health she has permission to leave the palace and live out the remaining of her days in her hometown. And in the cave when she tells Hae Soo she can't live much longer - just the fact she doesn't go into details about it and Hae Soo doesn't ask what she means, we have to assume it's because Hae Soo already knows. Besides, I don't think all the sadness surrounding Court Lady Oh's death is just the fact she's dying but about HOW she's dying. She is getting hung, she's getting executed as a traitor. I think that bears a lot in the pain Hae Soo suffers. 2) To me Prince Wook's feet were not as compelling as the unfurling of Prince So's cape as is goes around Hae Soo's shoulders to protect her from the cold rain. Just at her lowest point, when she realizes she is betrayed by someone she thought she could trust, hope comes from another source. I thought that was one of the most moving scenes of all the K dramas I've seen so far. And that image of Prince Wook walking away in the background while Hae Soo - finding the strength she gets from knowing Prince So is there for her - slowly sits up to get more protection from Prince So's cape. Oh my god. So poignant. Really, really beautiful.
