"Everyone is going out of their mind because of a girl." Kim Yang said that? Wow, the most unlikely source of wisdom. He must have meant the writers too. The fate of the entire country is hanging on the outcome of this conflict and that's not compelling enough? They have to make it all about Jung-hwa? Way too much Jung-hwa in this one, and it messed up what in other parts was a decent episode. And took time away from telling what sounds like a fascinating story, an army far outnumbered finding a way to win.
Actually, wait...how about this, JB is the one person thinking straight about Jung-hwa. Am I watching The Twilight Zone by mistake?
One good thing was Madam Jami reminding Jung-hwa that she (Jami) saved JB's life way back when. Nobody ever seems to talk about that. That turned out to be quite a good scene; nice acting by Chae Shira in that one, after Jung-hwa tells her You can't understand the situation because you've never loved anyone. It was obvious from the good acting how much it was a true statement and how deeply and painfully it resonated.
For a guy who hasn't shown a lot of brains in this series, JB sure came up with a clever battle plan. Wonder if there's historical support for any of it. The part about seizing the signaling beacon, it was a terrific angle and it's too bad we didn't see more of it. I've read a little bit about the signaling system the country used back then and it's very interesting stuff.
Unlike Jung-hwa leading the supply convoy, you can accept Madam Jami leading that army. It's a stupid move, of course, but it's understandable given her hatred of JB.
It would have been very funny if, when YM shows up where Jung-hwa was being held, Jung-hwa started wolfing down the food that she was refusing just before. Of course this series would never do something like that but it's too bad. Could have been a great moment; made Jung-hwa a little more human and likeable.
I complained about this kind of thing in the last episode too...but I'd rather they not try to show a scene of a major battle involving thousands and thousands of troops when you can see they have fewer than a hundred men on each side. There actually was some good combat in it and nice stunt work. But it needed some CGI or some other device to show that this was a major battle, or else a rewrite to the script to portray it as a vanguard battle of some sort.
Why is the king trying to flee the city by walking? They don't have a carriage for him? or even a horse? And it was sort of a surprise that Kim Yang was the one who killed the king. I don't think he did that in real history.
Speaking of Madam Jami sparing JB's life way back when...now JB will have the chance to repay that favor. Personally I'll be disgusted with him if he doesn't do it...but either way, it's a good cliffhanger.
p.s. Turns out, the historical record says that soldiers found the king hiding in the city and killed him. So showing him not escaping on horseback was correct. Full credit.
