Finally we have a storyline with some meat to it. The royal seal idea was very good, and for once you had to have respect for JB for standing on his principles and not getting into the political fray at all. It served him well this time. The succession plot is getting very interesting, with Kim Woo-jing having to balance his principles against reality like JB has had to do. And the whole struggle with the ends justifying the means, or not...it's an old standby but it works well in this episode. So for the most part this was a real good one.
"You should have embraced your enemy, no matter how difficult it was." That, coming from JB? Dude, practice what you preach! But for the first time JB is showing some real wisdom and insight. It's about time.
"That's how politics works. You can join forces with your enemy in order to pursue power." Really, really liking the brother being JB's advisor.
Unfortunately this series just can't seem to move away from the obvious silliness that finds its way into just about every episode:
--First we got the saddest, sorriest defense of a city gate I've ever seen.
--More of Kim Woo-jing traveling around in the middle of nowhere at night with just one guard. That was bad enough before but now with all the political turmoil going on, it's absurd.
--It continues to be ridiculous that a mass murderer (Yeom Jang) is hanging around the capital, and now even being near the new king. A continuity nightmare.
--And then the assassination attempt--which may well have succeeded, we just don't know yet--it was just plain silly. What was the new king doing traveling through that little town in the first place? Not to mention the ridiculous lack of protection for him. It made the whole thing look amateurish.
Wow, Madam Jami praying? Now we've seen everything. Maybe she's praying for hairstyle guidance. What is that thing sticking out of the front of her hair? It looks like part of a plastic coat hanger. She had a beautiful necklace on in this episode but all you can look at is that thing on her head. It was there last episode too. Blecch.
But the good outweighed the bad in this one. It's a much better series at this point than it was early on.
