Most of this episode was weak...more evidence that maybe those better episodes were an anomaly. Hope not but the trend is in the wrong direction. Except for the ending; the ending was a clever idea, with the two sides attacking each other's strongholds and the cliffhanger about the two leaders.
More of Jung-hwa pushing JB away for absolutely no good reason. She needs to go away again.
"Yeom Moon will take care of Jang Bogo." Okay Madam Jami, what on earth makes you think that's a given after everything that's happened? Come on, she's not that stupid. Not good writing for her to say that.
The shop-signaling was interesting, and so was the tide-measuring. More of the sailing stuff would add authenticity and make the story more interesting.
How did the pirate ship get so close to YM's ship on a brightly moonlit night without being spotted? And what good will landing on an island do if those fire arrows set the ship on fire? And what is the point of abandoning ship anyway, especially going onto an island where they're vulnerable to an ambush? The whole pirate attack sequence made no sense at all. Very disappointing. And it made JB look like a complete fool on top of it. "We neglected to anticipate an ambush." Blacksmith understated that one, didn't he. The pirates had lots of bows and arrows and JB's side had none. They even had a guy with an axe! That didn't even feel right--I mean, JB isn't a rocket scientist but it was implausibly stupid.
Where did the psycho go after he was surrounded? Did he jump into the water? Major editing mistake there. We see him later in the episode, apparently unharmed...so what happened?
One bright spot was the advice the blacksmith gave JB. That was a good moment, spoken from experience.
"He must be plotting treason." Good call Neung-chang! This is a good idea; watching Madam Jami and Master Yi scheming to keep each other in check could get entertaining.
"A merchant wouldn't make pointless visits." Loved the scene with Master Jo and the regent. Two of the few interesting people in the series. Once again, Master Jo makes an episode better.
The reference to Lu Buwei...Master Jo described him as "a merchant who used his wealth for politics" - yes he did:

So I'll look forward to the next episode and see how the cliffhanger resolves, but I'm no longer as hopeful as I was that things are turning for the better.
