"I plan to take the trade rights away from Madam Jami." Okay, fair is fair, big credit to the writers, never saw this one coming. What a great twist! Jung-hwa showing up with a trading group and now starting to poke at Madam Jami from the shadows, that will certainly liven up the plot. The downside is, we're gonna need a heck of an explanation for how she got to this position only a couple of years after getting snatched by road bandits in a different country...But it's a welcome development, not only for the plot but for her character. She's showing some life now, certainly a changed person from the spineless wet noodle she was before.
Really? So Master Yi has turned into a megalomaniac who wants to take over the country? Hmmm...Seems out of character, he's more of a calm thinker...he really thinks he can pull that off with a few hundred pirates?
"We shouldn't have sought their permission. We should have wiped out the pirates first." The blacksmith nailed it (no pun intended). JB did have a point--they wanted to set up shop there later and couldn't start off on the wrong foot--but still, if they wiped out the pirates it would be hard for the central government to fault them for doing it.
Did Master Sul fall and hit his head? He's letting his daughter travel through pirate-infested waters to try to get to his employees? Is he nuts? She's not going to do one bit of good there and will be a huge liability in a danger zone. Ugh!
Or maybe she just wants to show off some more how she's miraculously been cured of seasickness.
"Pirating. That's all they know how to do. What else would they do?" Wow, that was quite a piece of brainwork by Soon-jong in that room, putting all the pieces together about Master Yi. He made JB look like a vegetable.
Madam Jami acting like the mustache-twirling bad guy, arranging murder plots, no thanks. Let's not turn this whole thing into a cliché.
I loved that little downcast look from Neung-chang when Madam Jami started talking about being a kingmaker. Oh geez here she goes again. Very funny.
A new wrinkle in the Salvador Dali hair saga. Her hair shifted on an axis somehow. Maybe that's the protocol--want to impress bigshots, hair must orient forward and not sideways. But seriously, if she tilts her head in the right direction you can land a drone on her.
This new guy is interesting; hope he sticks around. The series needs some new characters at this point. How does he know Jung-hwa? There's another thing that's gonna need explaining big-time. Immediately recognized the actor, King Bojang from DJY, he did a nice job in that role.
Had mixed feelings about JB throwing his plans aside and landing. You can certainly understand his intense personal feelings about the pirate issue, but that doesn't make it right for him to go against the needs of his company. Same with that big dramatic speech he gave at the end of the episode. That actually was pretty well written, and it was one of the few times CSJ hasn't annoyed me--he delivered it well, not over-the-top at all. But JB isn't there to take personal revenge. The reason for landing should be the blacksmith's reason--don't ask for permission, ask for forgiveness--and not personal feelings.
That aside, a much better episode than nearly everything we got in the first half. Not spectacular but the trend is good.
p.s. Love the old ships. They look great.
