This one wasn't as good as the second half of the previous episode, but at least we have a bigger story going on now with the rebellion and war. So there's more to hold our interest rather than just a totally fictional and not-very-interesting biography.
Thank goodness for Master Jo--he really does inject life into every scene he's in. Has charisma and you can't say that about anybody else in the series, except maybe Yi Sa-do.
Said this before but I sure hope this thing isn't going to veer off into the rich daughter falling for JB. She knows where his heart is and we sure don't need another character staring forlornly into the distance, do we. That smile from the female security officer was awfully funny....
...At least the first one was. But the second one, when she scoffed at Yon for him saying he's killed a lot of people--why would she not believe that? He has. Well whatever, no matter, because that scene between the two of them, it was more touching and more sincere than anything in all of the interminable Eternal Triangle stuff that's been dumped on us by the truckload. It almost was a mistake to include that scene because it made the other stuff look so bloated and inferior by comparison. Just the simple honesty and care between them, what a nice change.
"Yon, I know I'm being reckless." Yes JB you are. Spoke too soon last time; gave the guy credit for not being impulsive enough to go back to the enemy camp because of Jung-hwa. Wrong! And all we saw of his entire five-day spy mission was him sneaking into camp, staring at Jung-hwa for ten seconds, and then having to fight his way out and run away. Sheesh.
Oh, and JB and Yon, if you guys are gonna sneak into camp at night and kill a couple of enemy soldiers, you might want to move the bodies where they won't be seen--away from the studio production floodlights. Ugh.
I wasn't really clear on why Madam Jami would be in such danger simply by delivering Yi Sa-do's message to the Shilla royals. As long as the Tang government doesn't know what she's going to do and stops her before she leaves the country, what's the problem? She goes home, delivers the message and that's that. Maybe I misunderstood.
Good scene at the camp, with the drunk sergeant. Properly handled by JB.
I'll resist the very easy horse's-ass joke...but really, it's absurd, unbelievable stupidity that Master Yi's group would wander across enemy lines with a horse that displays Yi Sa-do's tattoo mark on it. Nobody would have noticed that? This one is very, very hard to swallow. Ending an episode on such a silly plot twist is a mistake.
p.s. "Chun-tae, we should just go somewhere and live off the land." Go, Joong-dal, go! Anybody got some land they can go live on? Preferably way far away please. How about inside the crater of an active volcano.
