Age of Warriors and Great King Sejong on Youtube. There are certain problems with some of the videos (like missing parts, occasionally missing subs, and odd format) but here you go for those curious about these. Try watch before KBS tries to pull it.

Both have been terminated or blocked sadly. Daemang is up on You Tube, despite being a fusion( no wire work or hokey story line,... thank the gods ), it is one of the best historical drama's, the than young cast inc Jang Hyuk, Son Ye Jin and Lee Yo Won are all amazing in this. Killer musical score as well. This is one of my all time fave Sageuk's very poetic and haunting . www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIomrMYTulw&list=PLgAb80wx3a-tHFWZzENUfvX6WNwx5v-Ng

MTR can you give me a date range for that series? I don't have it in the main body of my timeline because I was never able to find a decent enough description of the series. What years does it cover? Also if you can give me a good one-sentence description of what the series is about, I'd appreciate it because that goes into the timeline too.
Hey mugwump, good to hear from you.
Hope all is well with both of you.

I've been wanting to write my thoughts down for a while now that I've seen these series.
My thoughts on GKS (I never got to finish it-I stopped watching when one of his daughters die I think?) is mostly mixed, albeit leaning towards the positive side, performances of the actors raising the bar. The Koryo revival movement was one of the more annoying subplots in my opinion, simply because their plans keep getting foiled so much it starts to get annoying that a group of wanna be bad guys keep hogging up alot of the time, and the Yangnyeonggun's story over wanting to conquer Liaodong got incredibly grating. Even if those stories were accuarate, I probably would have been annoyed with it anyway because of how much the writer seemed to enjoy stretching it out. It was a breath of air once those got out of the way. Another problem I have with the Yangneyong story is redundancy. The idea is to have a character who is incredibly pro-military and aggressive and full of bloodthirst, a foil for Sejong who wants to do things peacefully. The problem is that we already have that with his father, who will never live down the fact he's got family blood on his ledger plus a very militaristic figure. I don't really have an easy answer for how to rectify this and go differently but there's my two cents there.
Has anyone noticed something reoccuring whenever characters react to something? Something happens, they react negatively, and later on do a 180, sometimes very suddenly. A good example: Taejong reacts badly to his son trying to create a separate calendar from Ming, but later supports it-if I missed anything about that feel free to correct me. Whenver a character does something, they try to say it isn't how it seems and try give an analysis of their actions that often sound contradictory. As if the writer was confused about what to do about the character's psychology.
AOW's best story is in the beginning, the buildup towards the military revolt and its aftermath. Some of the best narrative for a Korean historical before its fire started to die out. This could probably apply to other historicals but alot of lines feel copy-paste. By the time Kyung Dae-seung took power, I got fed up and stopped watching altogether, because he is the most annoying hnorable protagonist I have ever encountered. Ned Stark would shake his head at this guy.

Me too i loved Kyung Dae Seung .
You should not quit watching it Sageuk, because the Archfiend and Choe rise to power is even better than the first part .
AKJ though a fictional story i would guess mid to late 1300'S .The cruel monarch in this though not named seems to be based on Sejo).
The basic plot for Daemang is a wealthy merchant has two sons, the older becomes a gifted swordsman and along with his father is involved in a palace coup putting the "wicked uncle" on the throne.(loosely based on Sejo only the heir escapes). The younger son, (Hyuk)from a different mother is a pacifist merchant, after saving the rightful heir to the throne, he sows the seeds for a tragic family reunion as he fights to restore the rightful heir.
I guess a simple plot line would read ..." A wealthy merchant family is divided as father and son back opposing sides in a succession dispute '.

Daemang - I am now up to episode 40, and it keeps surprising me how good it is. I hope the last 20 episodes do not go downhill. I've watched many historical dramas, and even though the characters in this are all fictional, I would say this is going to rank right at the top.

They do not Mugwump, it has a very strong ending, Its one of my favorites as well. This and Jang Gil San (which followed this, also featuring fictional characters but based on a real life rebellion. One of my biggest regrets is never recording it, its actually better than Daemang and i would put it against any historical as its that good) are two of my all time favorite Sageuks .
Jang Gil San can be watched online without subs, its like Spartacus substituting peasants and traveling clowns for Gladiators, (no Gladiator scenes either) relocated to 17th century Joseon. Amazing musical score as well.

Thanks, MTR, very helpful. Any time I can fill in a piece of missing information it's helpful, especially when it lets me slot a series into the timeline correctly. Much appreciated.

I speculate that I may have been eaten alive had my opinion about Kyung Dae-sung was posted here when AOW was airing. As for GKS, maybe?
I also forgot to mention the bagpipe song that plays in GKS whenever something bad happens. I like the song pverall, but at times it can get grating? Was this the pop song that people were complaining about or was it another song that I may have heard but don't remember?

I doubt if you would have been eaten alive The folks who were posting on the AOW thread were a fun group, who didn't take the show too seriously. Who can forget the ArchPiggy?

sageuk that wasn't the pop song. You'll know the pop song when you hear it. Or I guess if you've stopped watching, you won't...it doesn't show up until later in the series. I guess I was the one doing a lot of the complaining about it; that kind of thing doesn't bug most people as much as it bugs me so maybe it wouldn't have bugged you.
Didn't see AOW (yet; so help me I will). Most people liked GKS a lot more than you did. I don't think you'd have been flailed for that, though. There have been some surprising opinions from people here about shows they liked or didn't like; things you wouldn't expect. Keeps things interesting around here.
