Does this have the potential to surpass Iron Empress and (even) Gwanggaeto in terribleness?

HungV In real history, neither the blond guy nor Bi Hyung have anything to do with Baekje or Kim Yushin soapygrams I posted this in earlier pages few months back, but I'll write it again since it'll take some time for you to look for it. Bi Hyung and Gildal(blond guy) are both from legends. According to legend, King Jinji tried to make a peasant girl as his concubine. The peasant girl refused to marry since she was already married. King Jinji died few months after getting dethroned. His ghost then raped the peasant girl and the peasant girl gave birth to Bi Hyung. When King Jinpyung found this out, he raised Bi Hyung in the palace. When Bi Hyung grew up, he always went out of palace during nights. Jinpyung found this strange, so he ordered his servant to follow him. It turned out that Bi Hyung was hanging out with ghosts every night. Jinpyung ordered these ghosts to build a bridge in the river and the ghosts completed the bridge over just one night. Gildal was one of these ghosts. Gildal got adopted by Imjong and was given a job to guard the gate of a Buddhist temple. One day, Gildal transformed into a fox and ran away. Bi Hyung chased after Gildal and killed him. All of Bi Hyung's ghost friends feared him after Gildal's death, so they ran away and never came back again.

:)Thank you Truth. I realy do enjoy folk legends; it seems that there is always a bit of truth in the story somewhere.
Many American Indian legends sound similar to one another; even though every tribe has its own legends. For instance, al of the tribes have a legend about the Great Flood - just like in the Bible - with many many variations but still a great flood and after so many days, sunshine.
I really enjoy reading your summaries of the real hitory and it is such a shame that invaders destroyed so many records. Wish thee was some way to get them back but once gone, gone forever. Thanks again for al your helpful information.

Actually, the more I see, this may not be so bad after all. Story-telling-wise I mean. It does seem like they're veering away from real history. But as long as we don't get week after week of screaming (and who can spit the farthest) and overacting, and we do get well-written scenes, I'm in. Have to wait for subs to make a better judgment.
So who is Yushin's maternal grandfather in this one (the actor who was Yi Uibang in AOW)? In GQS, Yushin's mother was portrayed as sister to King Jipyung, but that clearly isn't the case here. Is Grandfather the younger son of one of the previous kings?
Episode 5 . . . . . Well, at least one of the cartoon characters has bitten the dust. And it only took about 10 Hwarang to bring her down.

currently watching ep5, and im still confused who's playing kim yushin's dad.
i do recognize yushin's mom now, is that the grumpy guy she talks with (in ep 2/3)? but he doesn't seem to act like a father to yushin
can we have some updates on roles+their images so we can recognize them easily? hihi. i'll try to make one if i have time.
also, i find sado's voice so... haha. i don't know. i like how she delivers her lines. interesting gran.

I just finished watching ep 5 & 6. The only historical facts in this drama so far was the fall of Kajam Fortress which Kim Yushin had nothing to do with in history and the war between Sui and Goguryeo which was only mentioned in narration.
I decided not to cover King Young Yang of Goguryeo since he doesn't make an appearance in this drama.
Here's the next translation.
Annals of Queen Seondeok(?-647 R.632-647)
Seondeok was the 2nd daughter of King Jinpyung and Queen Maya. Her full name was Kim Deokman. She became the first female ruler of Shilla on January of 632. On December of the same year, QSD sent a diplomat to Tang China in order to pay tributes and let Tang know that she became the new monarch. On July of 633, QSD paid tributes to Tang again. Li Shimin, or Emperor Taizong of Tang, refused to aknowledge QSD as the new monarch of Shilla until 635, because she was a woman. QSD hated Taizong for this reason.
Taizong once sent Seondeok a picture of peony blossom and its actual seeds as gifts. QSD noticed that the picture didn't have any butterflies in it and said that "The Chinese emperor sent this picture to mock me for being a single woman." She also knew that the peony blossom would not have any scent, because the picture didn't have any butterflies. On 640, QSD requested Tang China to accept Shilla royal family members as students of Tang's National School.
On 643, Taizong mocked QSD in front of her messenger by saying "The neighboring countries look down on your country, because you have a woman as your monarch. Your country is never peaceful, because it is full of people who became thieves after losing a ruler. I will send one of my relative to Shilla to be your monarch."
On August of 633, Baekje attacked Shilla's westernmost region. On May of 636, Baekje's General Woo So attacked Doksan Fortress. Shilla's General Alcheon annihilated this Baekje forces. On October of 638, Goguryeo attacked the northernmost region of Shilla. On November, Goguyreo attacked Chil Joong Fotress, but they retreated after losing to Alcheon. QSD made Haseulra as the northern capital(Bukyoung) of Shilla and ordered Jin Ju to guard it.
On 641, Uija became the king of Baekje after King Mu's death. On July of 642, Baekje conquered 40 fotresses in Shilla's west region. On August, Goguryeo conquered Dang Hang Fortress of Shilla. On the same month, Baekje's General Yoon Choong conquered Dae Ya Fotress of Shilla and killed Poom Seok the Lord of Dae Ya and his wife Kotaso(KCC's daughter), Jook Jook, and Yong Seok.
QSD was very surprised about this news, so she sent KCC to Goguryeo to request Goguryeo's help against Baekje. Yeon Gae So Moon, the Dictator of Goguryeo, answered that he would help if Shilla gives away all of its territories above Juknyoung. KCC got very upset by hearing this and yelled at YGSM. YGSM imprisoned KCC for yelling at him.
KCC lied to YGSM that Shilla would do as YGSM wants in order to go back home. QSD asked Tang for help since Goguryeo was unwilling to help Shilla. Taizong gave 3 plans to QSD's messenger :
1. Tang will order the Khitans and Malgal to invade Yodong(Liadong in Chinese) of Goguryeo. Goguryeo would be then too busy fighting on the north, so Shilla won't be attacked. 2. Goguryeo and Baekje army will run like cowards if Shillans wear Tang Chinse clothes and wave the Tang flag at Goguryeo and Baekje. 3. He will dethrone QSD and make one of his relative as the new king of Shilla
Taizong was obviously mocking Shilla, so QSD's messenger returned to Shilla without giving Taizong any answer. On January of 644, QSD requested for Tang's help again. Taizong sent Li Xuan Jiang to Goguryeo and advised them to stop attacking Shilla. YGSM, howver, answered that "It has been long since Goguryeo and Shilla's relationship had deteriorated. Shilla used Sui's attack on us as an opportunity by taking our lands and fortresses. We will not stop having wars against Shilla until they give our lands and fortresses back."
On the same year, Kim Yushin took back 7 fortresses that Shilla lost to Baekje earlier. On March of 645, Baekje attacked Shilla for retaliation, but Kim Yushin's Shilla gained a victory by killing 2000. On May, Taizong attacked Goguryeo. QSD sent 30,000 to attack Goguryeo's south region in order to help Tang. Baekje saw this as opportunity and conquered Shilla's 7 fortresses while Shilla was helping Tang.
On 645, Hwang Ryong Temple was built after Monk Jajang's suggestion. It took a lot of money to build this temple since it was the biggest temple in Korean history. Many peasants complained and criticized this. Bidam and Yeomjong used the complaints of the people as a chance and took over Myung Hwal Fortress to start a rebellion on January of 647. Bidam argued that the queen ruined Shilla.
Bidam became the Prime Minister on 645 and was very popular with the people, so many people joined his cause. However, taking the capital city was not easy. Kim Yushin and Alcheon eventually captured Bidam and put an end to the rebellion. QSD was very ill when the rebellion started and she died during the rebellion on the 8th of January, 647.
When QSD was alive, she knew when she was going to die and chose the place for her future tomb. This tomb is located on Bomun-dong of Kyoungju.
According to legend, QSD saw frogs crying in the middle of winter at a pond called Okmunji. She said that Baekje army would be hiding at Yeogeun valley after seeing this and ordered Alcheon to go defeat them.

Anyone can edit wiki, so no. The English wiki says she was born in 606.

Episode 6 . . . . . . . . . . . Argggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggh! Not the sappy music, anything but that! No matter how cute and sweet-looking Yushin and his lady love are. Please not the music! Seriously, you'd think if the Hwarang want to hide themselves, shouldn't they have some nifty fatigues instead of those bright orange uniforms?

young jindeok's quite a silent creeper. truth: seondeok and jindeok might be in good terms as you said, yes, but how about jindeok's relationship to muyeol? were there any records implying they don't go much well together...?
